PTZ physical connection

PTZ physical connection

I've been looking around and seen lots of info on scripts to control ptz cameras but how is the physical connection made? serial port? I have a friend with a camera he will let me borrow until I can afford one the specs are:
Communication system


RS485 bus control

Communication Protocol


Pelco-D / Pelco-P (optional)

Baud Rate


1200/2400/4800/9600/19200bps (adjustable)

is there an RS485 connection on most motherboards? or is it rs485 protocol on a serial port? or will I use a usb to rs485 adapter?

Only some industrial PCs have RS485 on the motherboard, 99% of other computers require an expansion card to have it and I've never seen a USB to RS485 converter but that's not to say one dose not exist.

I found the most economical solution is a rs232 to rs485 adapter to convert the serial port to rs485.
