Error, failed to query crop /dev/video4: Invalid arg..update

Post by chamrog »

Hi,

I manage to get one of the 3 usb cameras to work, problem is that i cant make any of the others work with the same settings, i just randomly tried settings and then the camera started working.

device path = /dev/video1
capture method = v4l2
channel= 0
device format= Pal B
palette= YUYV
width=352
height=288

these settings dont work for any of the other cameras for the same type, and its driving me insane, im not even sure this works after a reboot :(

i have seen several references to this error, but i have found no real solution to it yet, there was a patch for the source code, but patching did not go though.

My zoneminder installation is working with a capture card, and one IP cam, but its not working with any of the 4 usb cameras i have tired (they are working with xawtv -c /dev/video4)

root@localhost src]# zmu -V 2 -d /dev/video4 -q -v
Error, failed to query crop /dev/video4: Invalid argument

im usiing the soruce from here http://www2.zoneminder.com/downloads/Zo ... 4.2.tar.gz fetched it saturday the 22. january 2011) its compiled on centos 5.5 and i followed this guide
http://akeness.blogspot.com/2010/12/zon ... de-on.html

Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction?

Just an opinion: the more of these errors I see in the forums without "solved" the more I'm becoming convinced that this is nothing more then errors setting up zoneminder to the native resolution of the usb camera or using the wrong color palette. When changes are made you need to be very patient to see the result.

Thank you for your reply, but i dont see how setting the native resolution of the camera or the palette will help me, i get the error when try to use the utility that is intended to help me with these things. I am not at a stage yet where im configuring the monitors yet. To me it looks like a bug, or what i prefer is that im using the tool wrongly, which could easily be solved.

you are right, this has nothing to do with color palette or resolution or anything else, its simply bad error message that confuse the user.

i'm struggling with this for 2 days now and believe me i tried them all .
if there is no match then whats the problem to output - invalid resolution used.

and BTW i see more and more of this not solved - and this drive me to a decision i might ditch the zoneminder experience cause i had too much of it already . ( and i'm a 15 years developer who can handle computers)

this software sucks - sorry

Hi Shlomi.

I think you are a rude man, specially with the author of ZoneMinder who let us free of charge this exquisite piece of software.

I think you not know anything about programming. You say:
( and i'm a 15 years developer who can handle computers)
but in this thread you say:

So... you don't know nothing to have the right to say "this software sucks".

I am using ZM for years with USB, Wireless, Wired and capture cards without issues.

Please, read and learn programming before trying to use ZM. ZM is not for you. Instead, use a windowze software, for beginners like you.
