O.K.
Lucid installed - that was a ball ache! All of a sudden I have no display drivers and my refresh rate is 0 hertz.
After bumming around the various forums trying to stop a blank screen on boot, I managed to see what was on the monitor (12 hours)

Installation of Zoneminder about 3 hours using Synaptic and another couple of forums.

But Hey! it works and although I've only got the one event (me jumping up and down on camera 1) it exported it without a problem!

So far so good!

Cheers guys...

I spoke too soon

Obviously the original exported file is still sitting somewhere and stopping the new file being made as it will be called the same name.

Is there some way to stop this?

I've removed zmexport.zip from /tmp and I still get export failed

However, if I export as a tar, it will succeed by naming each zmExport.tar-1.gz, zmExport.tar-2.gz but they are only 45 bytes big, and needless to say, there are no images in them.

Found the error log (/var/log/apache2/error.log)

The log is huge!

This is the last bit (it's still big!) which it wrote after attempting to export just 1 event from camera 1...

Sorry, I don't know how to attach a file (perhaps someone could tell me that as well)

Hi, I won't address your error log, or export issues. But I will advise this. When you setup zoneminder, you need to make sure it can generate a video from an event. It can appear to work fine, but ffmpeg or something may not make videos because you missed something. So I always test video generation after any install. I have also found, to get better video, you can spec a faster bitrate for conversion with ffmpeg. It makes much less blockier video. Look under options ->images FFMPEG_OUTPUT_OPTIONS this line I put -r 30 -b 2000000 and I get much better video.
-r specs the frame rate and -b specs the bitrate at which those stills are converted to video.
Also click on archive when something happens to keep the events from being delted by the purge when full filter. Other than that. RTFM and read/search forum. Lots of good info on here.

Video generation fails as well
The problem about rtfm is that there isn't an up to date manual, and I don't think there has ever been one that talks about setting up exporting.
Somebody PLEASE prove me wrong!

you are right the manuals don't get updated as soon as each release comes out. But, my point was this, I've not had many issues with export ever. And if I did, it was because I didn't get ffmpeg setup correctly when I installed zoneminder. That is why I suggested you try to make videos. So, before export will work without error, video generation has to work without error.

So if you can find & fix your video generation problem, you may find export then works just fine.

I just tried export on a ZM 1.24.2 install & when it was done, it said exporting, export completed, then a dialog box for download & saving the export.tar file pop's open, allowing me to specify where to save the file.

Earlier versions did not do that, they exported the files to same place, no dialog box etc.. so it is better export than it used to be.

Hope that helps

Used Synaptic Package Manager to install the same version and all its dependencies. Since Synaptic "does everything" this makes knowing what happened wrong a bit tedious.

Video generation now works. I saw yet another "how to install" (http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=16102) so did that.

Download can work from the video generation box(i.e. make and download an mpeg), but still cannot work from the events box (i.e. just downloading images).

The dialogue box never gets a chance to come up, and actually the very first time I tried to export a file, it actually worked. But it never worked a second time - the thing is, no dialogue box asking for a place to save ever came up, so have you got a different version 1.24.2 than me??

What should I be looking for, and where do I look, when troubleshooting this problem?[/url]

Export Failed from Multiple Events Fixed

Post by amppjunior » Fri Oct 08, 2010 12:06 pm

Hi, I had the same problem and have it fixed. Just modify line 255 from the file zm/skins/classic/includes/export_functions.php from:
$exportFileList = array_merge( $exportFileList, exportFileList( $eid ), $exportDetail, $exportFrames, $exportImages, $exportVideo, $exportMisc );
to:
$exportFileList = array_merge( $exportFileList, exportFileList( $eid , $exportDetail, $exportFrames, $exportImages, $exportVideo, $exportMisc ));

Good luck!

Fantastic! Worked a treat.
I can now even export multiple events by ticking more than 1 box, and hey Presto!

Thanks a lot for that. I am now a happy bunny again (until the next problem)

heh. hope this has been reported as a bug and fixed for the next release. indeed, moving that parenthesis on line 255 solved the problem.

As of Ubuntu 11.10 ZoneMinder package is still broken in this regard.

Also now even fixing that line does not complete solve the problem, because now the view=export dialog gets with eid=undefined.
