Remote IP camera configuration

Post by adress » Wed Jun 30, 2010 7:43 pm

Dears, although I am new on this forum, there is always first time. I can't find solution in Documentation, on this forum and googling gave me solutions that did not suit my case.
I have remote IP camera, which is available from the Internet. Of course it works when I connect with special web admin module and with sting as well. The string looks like:
http://ipaddress:1234/videostream.cgi?u ... o&pwd=demo

As I found googling, there can be remote IP camera configured under ZoneMinder (see Adding Sourced under: http://www.brianklug.org/2010/01/zoneminder/)
I suppose this does not suit my camera configuration (in ZM documentation there is only mentioned about local cameras). Let me sum up:
1. Source type: Remote
2. Remote host name: http://ipaddres (I also tried here demo:demo@ipaddress)
3. Remote host port: 1234
4. Remote host path: videostream.cgi?user=demo&pwd=demo
5. Remote host subpath: I leave empty

After that, when in console I click on the configured camera name, I open new pop-up window with no view, no picture/videostream.
Please help!

Hey,

you have tried this setting?

1. Source type: Remote
2. Remote host name: demo:demo@ipaddress
3. Remote host port: 1234
4. Remote host path: /videostream.cgi

Thank you for prompt response.
Yes, still the same - nothing, no picter, no view.
(Don't all ip cameras have the same string address to their video stream?)
Do we have any other ideas/solutions?

For me the string is only video.cgi

Can you open the stream with your path in browser??

Code: Select all

user:pass@ip:port/videostream.cgi
???
Tell us more about the camera.

Tthe string you proposed works properly, with videostresm.cgi. My camera is one of those famous cheenese ip cameras, cheap and easy to configure. Please believe me, camera works good vie brownser, I don't have problem with this. Only configuration under ZM.

Sure i believe you - i have also two of these chineese cams - but i have to use /video.cgi to get it work.
So the remote host path should not include the user data.

I think that problem can be connected with some setting (but I can't find it). In main console window, in source column, sources are listed in red.
In /var/log/messages I find "zma_m2 ... waiting for capture deamon". When googling I found information that there is to small space on hard drive, but there is not.
So if anybody has any suggestions, please help.
Additionaly I have camera under source in red, but also in green (still can't see any stream in ZM). Is there any camera in the Internet I can use for checking? I tried to use "mplayer http://demo:demo@ipaddress:3000:1234/videostream.cgi" but it stopped with Win32 LoadLibrary failed to Load...

What brand and name of camera is it? (With so many chinese noname ones this may not be useful ofc, but still a chance somebody else has encountered it)

What type of stream is it? MPEG4, mjpeg or still jpg?

Does it have facility for different types of stream you could try?

Is there, in fact, authentication required? (the user:pass@ bit)

No, not all ip cameras are the same. Massive variety and a great many of them use broken protocols or rely on ActiveX or javascript workarounds in their interface to make them work, but that's not portable.

Please tell me what mplayer should do with such an url?????

http:// -> Port 80 URL: ipaddress

https:// -> Port 443 URL: ipaddress

ipaddress:80 same as http://ipaddress
ipaddress:443 same as https://ipaddress

... what will mplayer do with
http://demo:demo@ipaddress:3000:1234/videostream.cgi

reslove to PORT 80 PORT 3000 PORT 1234 ipaddress/videostream.cgi user and password.... FAIL

So what is port 3000???
From your older posts i think you set the cam to Port 1234
use this link for mplayer

Code: Select all

demo:demo@ipadress:1234/videostream.cgi
but - it looks ugly to me too dont know if it will work.

If your camera is similar to mine, I can suggest this.
You need to know the following:
The IP address of the camera. If you enter this, the result will be like this 192.168.0.178 if you input this with your browser, you will get the camera"s internal program sign-on. In my case the router required the inside ip address to start with 192.168.1 so I had to use the included windows software to change the address. I also changed the password to admin with no password.
Configure zoneminder to Remote,HTTP,Simple,admin:@192.168.1.178,80,/videostream.cgi,24 Bit Colour,320,240
The ip address is my camera"s ip address.

Thank you for your response, let me tell you that I configured two monitors for the same camera, one with videostream.cgi, second with snapshot.cgi.
Video one shows source in red colour, gives no view. The second works (I suppose), because ZoneMinder recorder "some" Events in its history.
Maybe there is a problem with upload speed on camera connection :)

Thank you all for your support. I'm sorry I responding so late, but I have to few time to manage my issue with ZM. There was a problem with bandwidth, videostream needed to much of it. Now I work with snapshots and it seems to be fine from my point of view (and functionalities needed). Thank you again for your help. Regards,
