Sources keep going red, zma/zmc restart, ubuntu 9.10 x64

Post by deldued »

I'm hoping someone can help with this - I've recently upgraded my capture card to a generic 4 port saa7134, and at the same time, upgraded my ubuntu install.

I've also installed the latest v1.24.2 ZM ubuntu x64 release from ftp.northern-ridge.com.au/ I've also done the shared memory tweak.

The system mostly works, however, every so often, one or more of the source will go red for a while - at this point there is no video available and I assume that events will not be captured. The source will eventually come back on its own.

I first assumed that it might be a heat problem, since the saa7134 chips get quite warm, but I've added heat sinks to each chip, and a fan to keep them nice and cool.

I've played with all the settings I can think of - increasing the frame rate does seem to make it fail more often.

Any ideas?? Please!!

Here's some screen shots and system data:

For 1969 and 1970 timestamps in your events, install mysqltuner as per miket's guide and set parameters

Thanks for that tip - have applied it and will look out for 1970 issues.

Still getting red sources though...

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the .deb package, and build from source as per the link above.

Delete all bad events, stop zoneminder and run mysqlcheck -r --all-databases...

ok - I think the bad events are a different issue..

When looking at the logs (thanks to mitch for the trobleshooting guide) I see a lot of:

Code: Select all

12/30/09 23:35:43.332341 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB2-zm_local_camera.cpp/1886 [Post-capturing]
12/30/09 23:35:43.332356 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB3-zm_local_camera.cpp/1910 [Requeueing buffer 1]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529489 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB2-zm_local_camera.cpp/1485 [Pre-capturing]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529526 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB3-zm_local_camera.cpp/1491 [Capturing]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529536 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB3-zm_local_camera.cpp/1514 [Capturing 1 frames]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529626 zmc_dvideo0[-1].WAR-zm_local_camera.cpp/1520 [Capture failure, possible signal loss?: Input/output error]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529684 zmc_dvideo0[-1].ERR-zmc.cpp/260 [Failed to capture image from monitor 1 (0/1)]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529782 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB3-zm_local_camera.cpp/698 [Terminating video stream]
12/30/09 23:35:43.529928 zmc_dvideo0[-1].DB3-zm_local_camera.cpp/704 [Unmapping video buffers]

I don't think there will be any issue with the cameras - they're all standard CCTV cameras connected directly to the PC, and powered from the PC.

I'm guessing it's a capture card hardware or driver issue..

The mplayer on my ubuntu doesn't seem to have tv support.

However, I currently have 4 instances of xawtv running /dev/video0 to /dev/video3. I will leave it running like that for a few hours and see if any crash out.

i have exactly same problem as you'rs i have a 8 x saa7130 200fps card, and i get the same problem, my load stays at 0.2 - 0.4 so its not a high load. my card has heat sinks on each chipset, so i dont know if its a temperature problem...

well anyway if u crack this let me know plz :)

Happy new year!

I've had all 4 sources running on xawtv for an hour - although I haven't been watching them all the time, I've not noticed any dropout.

This suggests that it's not hardware..

littlej - what OS are you running?

I have been fighting to get zoneminder working on my AMD64, currently running ubuntu 9.04. I am begining to notice that when I search for any errors related to the following :

zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v
Error, failed to query crop /dev/video0: Invalid argument

FAT-zm_local_camera.cpp/386 [Failed to set video format: Invalid argument]
INF-zm_signal.cpp/64 [Got signal 6 (Aborted), exiting and forcing backtrace]

Could be just me but I have noticed that most of the people who are having these same issues are running an AMD64.
Just food for thought

Anyone know if its possible to use chroot to run a 32 bit version?

I have a 32bit jaunty chroot environment on my machine, but not sure if the capture card will work in this case.

I am having this same problem with all network cameras, randomly one or two will be red. I see no error messages so far but maybe I am not looking in the right places..

I have tried a few different machines/ setups with the same results.. I had ZMArch distro had this happening.. I just did two Debian installs, one on intel hardware and another on AMD... both had th is happening as well..

I have an old machine running the 1.23.x zm (mandrake) working just fine with the same cameras, no dropouts at all.. I am almost starting to think maybe its something in the 1.24.x version.. but it doesn't appear to be happening to everyone...

Sorry I have no helpful information but maybe someone else will see that there are more people having this and maybe have an idea...

I have turned on the extra debugging from the troubleshooting section to take a look and see if I can find anything aditional.. Of course the reboot of the server that was needed to enable the feature has them working again.. but they will drop again, they have been pretty constantly and anything I find I will post as well to see if anyone has an idea.. I think we're fighting the same issue.
