Six 5Mp Camera Requirement

I'm currently running Zoneminder in an ESXi environment, but finding issues with it taking up a lot of CPU with only a single 5Mp camera. I am 'disposing' of a 16 core Opteron 2.5Ghz system at work and plan to drop a second CPU into it for 32 cores total. It has 128Gb of memory and 6Gbps SAS disks. I know this will run the 6 cameras, but wonder how many I could run, assuming I continue to use 5Mp and have motion detection on ALL cameras?
Is there a general 'go-to' calculation I can use?
