Older Mac PowerPC G5 tower

Post by float13 »

Hi,

Just found this, it looks really awesome! And I would love to contribute if I wind up using it.

Would ZoneMinder run well on an older 32-bit PowerPC G5 Mac tower? I don't have the exact specs with me, but pretty sure it's dual-processor.

More importantly, will ZoneMinder continue to support older architecture, or will I be stuck with older/unsupported versions (and custom builds)?

What OS would you recommend? Debian? And what about hard drives (I'll need probably 6-10 cameras, at least some with 24/7 continuous recording on a 30-day loop, and preferably HD).

Or am I better off buying something newer?

I'm thinking of IP cameras on a PoE switch, with PC and switch connected to a UPS in case of power failure.

G5's are not worth the electricity.
