Low cost cctv with ZoneMinder

Post by charles_fr »

Hi all

I need to stand up a low cost CCTV. I've got a lot of "old" PC (AMD Athlon A64 for all of them) and a ML370 G5 Proliant server (8 cores w/ 2x Xeon X5450 and 32Gb RAM and 5 x 15K 72Go SAS HDD).

At the beginning, it was my old dual-core Athlon A64 X2 4400+ with 4Gb of RAM, a SSD for the OS and a RAID 0 of 2x250Go SATA HDD for recording.
I need 4 cams, outdoor, 3,5m from the ground. Motion detect need only, not recording permanently.

But, when I read that a core i7 is sometimes quite short, does I really need me Proliant server to built my own low-cost CCTV ?

Do you have some advices for good cheap outdoor ip camera also ?

Here a diagram I made : http://www.cjoint.com/c/GKsoQ3SYYqR

Thank's :)
