BT878 card, installation ok?

Post by snaptec »

Hey there,
since a week I good Zoneminder and really love it.
Got a athlon 3200+ ubuntu 9.10 2.6.31-14-generic Kernel
Zoneminder v1.24.1
There hooked up two Logitech c200 webcams running nearly perfectly.

Today a bt 878 4 channel dvr card arrived :)
It is nearly the same like this one:
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Pico2000
But I got a Fusion 878A 25878-132 (instead of -13 in the picture) chip
After boot dmesg display this:

Code: Select all

[ 47.168032] bttv0: tuner absent
[ 47.168036] bttv0: the autoload option is obsolete.
[ 47.168039] bttv0: use option msp3400, tda7432 or tvaudio to
[ 47.168041] bttv0: override which audio module should be used.
[ 47.168134] bttv0: registered device video2
[ 47.168164] bttv0: registered device vbi0
[   47.168181] bttv0: PLL: 28636363 => 35468950 .. ok
lspci gives me this:

Code: Select all

01:07.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)
01:07.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)
I added

Code: Select all

options bttv card=77 tuner=4 radio=0 triton1=0 vsfx=0 autoload=0
to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

in Zoneminder
I added 3 new cameras. Device /dev/video2 (video0 and video1 are the webcams) channel 0,1 and 2, mode pal b (I´m german) format is yuyv.
When I click on a cam I get a blue picture. There are no cameras connected. Is everything hooked up fine and working?
Why I am asking:
On thursday I´ve to install this PC in a location where´s no internet at the moment (about 2 weeks later there´ll be) and deadline is friday till it have to work.
The cams are already installed at the location so I can´t take one home to test.

Do you need any further information?
If someone else in Germany is searching a 4 Channel card, here is the link where I bought mine:

There are no cameras connected
You could try with any device that gives you s-video(need adapter wintv or sumtin) or RCA... like a tape recorder, dvd, some console games... just to check...

Would the video out of a Panasonic DV cam fit?

is the inner signal on the RCA Jack the same like at the BNC connector?
I don´t have a adapter, but would try to "fizzle" it in (for testing)

thanks in advance

Hi,

Yes, the signal of RCA is the same signal as BNC. Its just that RCA cables are made for short distances, but they both carry PAL\NTSC video.
Simply hook your TV video-out to the card to check. Make sure to hook the inner conductor and also the outer one, which is the interference shield.

Hooked everything up today and got one problem:

one camera got the following settings:
/dev/video2
Channel 0
LinuxDriver2
Pal B
Grey (is a black/white camera, yuvy works also, whut is better?)
720x576

and another with the same settings but channel 2

When cam 1 is on monitor and cam 2 is off I can see the picture of cam1
when cam 2 is on monitor and cam 1 is off I can see the picture of cam2
and when cam 1 and 2 is on monitor I can only see the picture of cam 2!

I added

Code: Select all

options bttv card=77 tuner=4 radio=0 triton1=0 vsfx=0 autoload=0
to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf but the file didn´t exist till I made it. Do I have to enable it somewhere?
or am I to stupid and don´t see the wrong thing?

Hope you can help :)

May be you can fix the /dev/videox in /etc/udev/rules.d/83duplicate.rules Like this you can conf one to one cam and fix the problem

Code: Select all

Re: BT878 card, installation ok?

Post by jemmyn »

It took me a long long time to figure out the config for the Fusion 878a card.

create this file /etc/modprobe.d/options

/etc/modprobe.d/options contents:
# Video Capture Card: Fusion 878a CHIPSET
options i2c-algo-bit bit_test=1
options bttv gbuffers=16 card=133,132,133,133

Mine has 4 conexant chips on it. The chips tend to get very hot so I bought some cheap heat syncs which I stuck on each of the chips.

I have also noticed that the more cameras you have setup the slower the frame rate, I am a newb so I am not sure why this is but if I just have one camera hooked up I can capture at over 30fps, If I had more than 4 cameras I think I had to drop the frame rate down to 6fps or something. I am not sure if this was a limitation to the card or my cpu but I am pretty sure the card has a maximum frame capture rate and that gets divided between all the channels?
