Spam edits on the wiki.

Post by BiloxiGeek »

The user kristof seems to post nothing but spam links on pages in the wiki. Couldn't his account get disabled so at least slow down the spamming?

Agreed. I've cleaned up kristof's spam edits a few times over the past month myself.

In fact that user spammed the same pages again about 24 hours since this thread was started, so I've had to undo those revisions again.

As well as the wiki, the forum has two spam posts in Website Issues and one in Non-ZoneMinder Chat. Apparently these posts have "already been reported" but they are still sitting there for about a month now...

And he/she put the spam back since you undid them. I started to undo them but got distracted.

I'm an admin on another major site. We ban the IP's as we catch them. Not sure what Flasheart is doing.

Another fortnight, another round of spam edits by Erictenne that I've just had to clean up. Again.

Have all the spam-sweepers gone away for good?

Not from that username or IP again banned both. But without some sort of spammer control on registration we will always have issues. I will talk with guys and get something in place.
Thanks for your vigilance BiloxiGeek

User name Jassure now undoing some of my Erictenne undo's. Almost like it's the same spammer under a different user name.

Can you create a group under MediaWiki and assign privileges to the group? Maybe add a Spam group, then when the spammers do their thing it's a quick group change for the account and they can read but no longer modify any wiki pages.

Some more luck using stopforumspam to prevent the spammers creating accounts in the first place. Still want to do some changes so only users who have posted in forums a few times can edit the wiki, just need to get Kyle onto it.

OK so they have just got out of control, we may need to lock the wiki down to only approved editors, and probably into read only mode so we can do a clean up.
