I am also interested in ANPR, currently I am looking for an open source solution for Brazilian number plates. The only I have found so far is

http://javaanpr.sourceforge.net

Does anyone have experience in adapting javaanpr for other countries?

As for proprietary solutions just googling one can find many, the less expensive I could find were

http://www.dtksoft.com/dtkanpr.php

http://www.warelogic.com

But the cheap ones do not support Brazil :(

Hi,

I have some experience adapting javaanpr for spanish plates and improving some methods that were not working as expected.

Maybe I can help you to adapt Brazilian plates.

A long time since I was here

Its a long, long time since I started this topic off. but it has created a lot of interest and for the record I employed author of Javaanpr for nearly 6 months.

Ondrej Martinsky was good fun, a pleasure to work with and will probably be a friend for life. I was sorry to she him go but life in Preston cannot match London but it was good fun whilst it lasted. He wrote my OCR in C++

Go to Ring & Reg its a product I'm about to release

Interesting technical problems like this one

are what get people interested in computer science as a career.

Its great to hear about them.

Sort of along similar lines, face recognition is a similar use of machine vision.

Here is one overview on how it works.

"Veggie Vision" is another very interesting computer vision project that could be coming to a supermarket near you soon:

This kind of technology is becoming affordable very quickly as the price of hardware comes down.
