Running ZM on the Bare Minimum

Post by rockedge »

For no real reason other than the machine was sitting buried away in a drawer of a filing cabinet I installed an operating system and wanted to see if I could get ZM to run on it. The machine is an 2002 Dell LATITUDE C610, packing a Mobile Intel Pentium III Processor M 1.0 GHz and 256 megs of RAM.

OS -> Puppy Linux Raring UPUP 3.9.9.2 (kernel 3.9.9, Ubuntu Raring binaries)
ZM -> zoneminder-1.26.5
LAMP -> Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu)
MySQL 5.5.34-0ubuntu0.13.04.1 - (Ubuntu)
PHP Version 5.4.9-4ubuntu2.4

And it works. I am running ZM with 2 IP net cameras at 320x240 and one has a frame rate of about 6 the other around a steady 10
the load average is around 0.30

all this is in 131 megs of RAM.

This machine will streaming a single webcam 24/7 on a website page of an aquarium setup like a small river bottom with trout eggs and fry and follows their development. The IBM T-42 that did it with ZM 1.30.4 lost it's fan and needs repair so this bad boy is going to fill in and I am interested in seeing how long the system will be reliable.
