Re: My first camera
Review https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Hardware_Compatibilty_List to see existing Hikvision paths. It's likely to work. There should also be a user manual for the camera that documents the path. Their cameras are fairly well supported. I would recommend you purchase 1 camera, test that it works, then bu...

Re: No Video in ZM Console
What is the model of camera? What install instructions did you use? What are your source settings for the camera?
Can you watch the stream in VLC or FFMPEG?

Desktop Screen Recording and Monitoring
Zoneminder can record the desktop of a user's computer. All that is required is to serve images or video of the desktop on the LAN. It's doesn't have to be HTTP and MJPEG/RTSP. It can be SMB mapped to the ZM server, and then read as File type in ZM. I started with Windows computers, as most small bu...

Re: No Video in ZM Console
It sounds like you have everything working except the camera. See https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Finding_Camera_Stream_Paths You could also post the logs, that may help. Don't put a Max FPS in ZM. Do ensure you get the Resolution correct. You can test it in VLC gui or ffmpeg first to get the resolution...

Readthedocs is on 1.32.3
Official ZM Documentation redirects to 1.32.3 on zoneminder.readthedocs.io.
1.34 is there, but by default it goes to 1.32.3

Re: Home alarm system
You can receive alarms from zmtrigger.pl (it's a telnet server), and act on those. https://wiki.zoneminder.com/ZMTrigger You can set a filter to activate a shell script. https://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/1.32.3/userguide/filterevents.html There are likely other ways. I don't know how you would in...

Re: Sending email from ZM
Everything I know is covered in https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Email You can try adding DEBUG=yes to ssmtp.conf As a sanity check, try a different email server, something that other people have used on the forums. 400 errors I think mean it's an error on the servers part. 500 errors mean it's a user er...

Re: Restrict user access to only local network devices
Apache can block based on IP address. Try that, and only allow certain IPs. Most employees don't understand how to access servers from the internet via ip address and port, so they probably wouldn't know to look for ZM on the WAN. Alternatively, you could route all WAN from the ZM server through a V...

To be fair, my experience is with an RPI, so you might have better luck with an x86 based CPU / server hardware.

Re: ZMRepo Builds - Debian Stretch and Jessie incomplete
Also, looks like 1.32.3 and 1.34 on zmrepo are missing the /etc/init.d/zoneminder script. Including this file will retain compatibility with sysvinit. The init file from 1.30.4 works ok for these releases. Another note: ZMRepo currently has release and release-1.34. Release has 1.32.3. In order to n...

ZMRepo Builds - Debian Stretch and Jessie incomplete
Some builds for Stretch and Jessie are not there. Are these planned to be supported? I'm almost positive 1.34 will build on stretch, as I've tested 1.33 with Devuan Ascii (which is more or less similar), so I don't think much has changed. Review https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/Debian/ and you'll see s...

Re: Is ZoneMinder Streaming API fast enough for live broadcasting?
In my experience, there is about a 5-10 second delay from a remote 4G hotspot and VPN to a LAN.
