Re: Zoneminder on a "stick"
Nice, thanks bbunge, the last ZM ver I installed was 1.28 about a year ago I did an install from a DVD on an older Optiplex E8400 4GB ram and an SSD. Used the 64 bit Cameras tested are Dahua and Qrandstream in H264 / ffmpeg the first 2 things I checked were the recorded alarm frame rate and event pl...

Re: PC & capture card recommendations
video capture cards don't seem to do as well as they used to. There are pretty expensive if you get a good one and hard to find. I have been using video encoders made by Grandstream. They make a 4 port encoder that cost around 80 usd. Model number has 3504 in it I think. I'm running 4 of them on one...

Re: Seeking Hardware Advice... (low budget)
For anyone else looking for budget hardware, I'll second that on using used servers from ebay. I've bought quite a few from the Ebay seller, Garlandcomputer. The ones I like end up being sold by them, go figure. As knnniggett has mentioned they have good product, at a good price. I usually get rack ...

Re: SONY SNCRZ25N
I had that PTZ working on ver 1.23.3. A guy posted the file on the forum and worked pretty good. I remember seeing that the PTZ stuff has changed formats since then so I haven't even tried it on the 2 SONY SNCRZ25Ns I have. We just use the JAVA on the web page of the camera. Those cams are nice, bad...

Re: Suggestions on performing backups?
knnniggett has the answer, clonezilla. Quick and easy. Once I get a server running with all the extras I want, I clone it. Although I use an external HD for events, it's not hard to redo any links. I actually use clonezilla to build all my servers once I get a good running ZM install I clone it and ...

Re: libvlc rtsp stream quits working after 24+ hours
I put one Dahua on libvlc and it did the same thing. stopped streaming. 5 other cams on same network, same server with ffmpeg did not
stop. I use libvlc on some grand stream encoders since ffmpeg wouldn't work with them and they have been going strong for a month.

Re: apache webserver virtual server document root?
I've built a few with 14.04LTS, ZM vers 1.28.1 and changed in apache2 folder sites-available file 000-default.conf to DocumentRoot /usr/share/zoneminder might not be secure but works. I also use htaccess files and fail2ban. If there are any security guys out there that think this is not secure, let ...

Re: What hardware you running ZoneMinder on?
BTW the other dell R310 system with 10 IP cams(Dahua 4300S), 2 - Ubiquiti nano stations, wire and POE switches
cost a total of about $2300.00 for parts. Too bad it's for a friend.

Re: What hardware you running ZoneMinder on?
The hardware you run it on really depends on the type and QTY of cameras you plan to use. Frame rate also matters. I usually go for over kill on the CPU since I refuse to use CCTV cams. With the price of IP cams it's crazy not to use them. I've had good luck buying used servers with single or dual q...

Re: Cameras with both high and low def streams
I must be doing it wrong after reading all the posts about motion detection on the low def' stream. I have always done the detection on the main stream without a problem. Most systems running at 10 to 15 fps per camera, and resolutions from 720 to 1080. My CPU usage has never gone too high doing det...

Re: Issue downloading events (saved/generated video)
just tried it on a Ubuntu 1.28.0 install. the download link does not have events in the link.
Also if you try to right click and save link it doesn't work. Left Clicking on the link works.

Did you add a hard drive for event storage ??
I don't know much about the differences,
knnniggett would be the guy.

Re: Minimum alarm duration
This might not be the correct answer however I always set my "Image Buffer Size" to a little more than double the "Pre Event Image Count". After doing this you might have to restart Zoneminder. The Monitor resolution makes a difference in available memory. Most of my installs hav...
