Quad core cpus are so cheap I would definately go that way if you want to do multiple cams. Combined with intel ipp (see recent posts) or some other optimization libs (plus limited zone areas if possible) you oculd pull off multiple cams at that resolution. Make sure to do a decent hd raid setup to ...

Yep very nice although again some confusion over paid support i really think if possible outlining exactly what you get with paid support is a good idea. IE, you pay X, you can submit tickets to a system which allow us to track issues and securely transmit sensitive data. In addition there is phone ...

Sounds like you were able to write an ad for Motion, congrats. Zoneminder is most likely the largest linux cctv solution out there. Virtually every distribution carries it and it has a large number of users. Sorry you were unable to get it working, especially your 'quality issues', but they were mos...

This could cause issues if your IO bound but in that case add another drive and raid them. Storing as JPEG's allows t...

So your main issue is the Motion Detection, the good news is there is a lot you can do here to help! To start as you said, set the max fps to something low (say 4 fps) and the alarm FPS to what you want to record at (say 15 FPS). This will help keep the load down when not in alarm mode. The second, ...
