Losing events, zmaudit acting up
So, coming back after a day off, I find my server has 100% of disc space occupied, and the number of events is neglible. (had 700 or so per camera a couple of days ago.) Ubuntu 9.10, compiled locally, 1.24.2, also getting strange errors manually running zmaudit.pl, specifically sudo zmaudit.pl [sudo...

I'd been thinking along these lines for a while, but one of the reasons I never pursued it was the distance capability of USB cameras, and the vast distances apart my cameras are. (13.5 story square city block). Do you have computers nearby the usb cams, or are you using some sort of extension? Any ...

This requires more explanation than kingofkya mentioned or I'll go into, but mpeg4 is a container format, the codecs used inside of it vary. H.264 is essentially a flavor of mpeg4, if that makes any sense. It's a newer flavor, so it may or may not provide better results. I've heard it's good for sma...

Mount the smbfs (for the record, you're mounting smbfs with url you've been using, not an nfs) by putting this in your fstab. //server/share /mnt/nameme smbfs credentials=/etc/credentials,uid=www-data,gid=www-data,fmask=0770,dmask=0770 0 0 credentials file should include two lines username=insertuse...

Ffmpeg compile with extra encoders/decoders
So if you check the help, there's a bajillion encoders and decoders listed that one can enable. Annoyingly, there's not an --enable-all-decoders option, so I ended up with a ridiculously long config line when I added all of them. (Why not was roughly the reasoning.) Successfully compiled, zoneminder...

Distance is probably key. I've got an ACTi that makes a beautiful image, but it's only covering roughly 20 feet from the camera. Specs claim 15 meters. <$400
