I just tried this again with my new CentOS compiled version, and same thing.
When an alarm occurs, it never makes a tcp/25 connection at all to the MTA.

Does anyone have email notifications enabled?
If so, was there something special required?

Yep, 94 slackware for me. It was a CD though. The kernel version was asymptotically approaching 1.0 just prior to when i started, but it was post 1.0.something by the time I got there.
