I have tried every combination and permutation of all of the settings that I can think of, still can't get it to connect to zoneminder. It stays in red. I have tried using Jpeg, Mjpeg, Mp4, none seem to allow a connection. The host just stays red From memory - visit the camera's web admin, and to d...

As KeithB says, you're only doing half the steps for the current session

From the wiki

Code: Select all

echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmall
echo 134217728 >/proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
That should be ample for a up to 640x480 .

No, but... Axis and some other cameras have physical triggers that could possibly be connected to a doorbell to activate a recording on-camera which could then be automatically transferred to zm. They're just a simple "normall opened" or "normally closed" switch on the back of th...

In zm, under source tab for a camera. Source type: remote Remote host name: the ip of the camera, eg: 192.168.1.100 Under "Remote Host Path" add the rest of it. /cgi-bin/nphMotionJpeg?Resolution=320x240 Change colours to 24 bit, width to 320 and height to 240 Note this will only work if th...

You may need to recheck the shared memory settings.

What resolution are we looking at here? The wiki figures work for 640x480 but if you're a megapixel camera then you'll need to at least double them.

I forgot about the turbolib, thanks storm. Indeed, makes a bit difference and good to see it's getting into at least one distro.

Motion detection requires that every frame is compared to the previous one(s) according to one or more user defined zones and rules. When you have streams doing 20-30 frames per second, colour high quality image sizes of 1280x1024 and multiple cameras - then yes, zoneminder does need some grunt to g...

No, you only need a capture card when using external analogue cameras. If v4l is happy with the camera, zoneminder should be too. I'm don't know what error 22 is, but if you haven't already, change the shared memory shmmax as per the FAQ - http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#What_does_a_.27...

Same issue as the cloud question. Bandwidth. If ZM is doing monitoring or modect it'll cost a lot on bandwidth. If the cameras are doing triggers and uploading only events, sure, could work well.

I'm fairly ignorant of clouds, but... 50 cameras? Bandwidth? CPU.load?

That would require a high end server with fast I/O if run locally. Across the internet, how would it come with such problems?

No I didn't report my issues to Ubuntu and you're right, such things should be. I have several problems with Ubuntu other than it breaking upgrades (all distros do this) namely significant performance degradation on the same hardware running the same things as debian (between 40-200% reduction in lo...

You're going to have to explain in more detail what you want. If you want different logins to the web console, research htaccess passwording. And without your cameras make and model, I suspect nobody will be able to help. There is no such thing as a 'generic' ip camera, all are different and all hav...

If you've more than one camera, rethink it - the io overhead will be very large. If you want to try anyway; In /etc/fstab do something like //192.168.44.100/share /remotedrive cifs guest,_netdev 0 0 Change ip/share to target ip and share name. /remotedrive is your local mountpoint (mkdir /remotedriv...

Sorry, I misunderstood. MPEG4 streams /do/ take far more cpu than jpg or mjpeg feeds because Zoneminder must first convert the MPEG4 into jpgs so it can interpret them and store them. Obviously, mjpeg and jpeg feeds can skip this step. The higher resolutions will need a bigger shared memory declarat...
