Most of the errors will probably end up in the syslog and/or messages also. Stop zoneminder (zmpkg.pl stop), "tail -f /var/log/messages", start zoneminder (zmpkg.pl start) and see if anything interesting pops up. And you're right, the fun is in getting something to work. I've had my caffei...

If my advice were valuable, someone would be paying me for it. Meanwhile, a DVR will probably make your life easier, so though sarcastic and rather rude, it wasn't a bad suggestion.

Personally, I wouldn't mind more megapixel IP cameras, mine are all working fine with zoneminder, though the motion detection was offloaded to the cameras. IO's probably the biggest issue, you want/need a raid.

I'd suggest buying a DVR, you're not ready for linux.

Yes, and unix is case sensitive. If you don't have the "locate" command, use

Code: Select all

find / -name "zm*.log"

Maybe a log? I hear 'nix machines tend to generate them for all sorts of things. zm logs vary in location depending on distribution, do a "locate zmwatch.log" and see if that shows you where they are, and then check for interesting messages. Check zm*.log for errors when you find the direc...

FYI: All three of my servers are on Ubuntu 9.10, none have any issues. (Only one of them has an analog pvr-149 or 150)

Could be either. Or bad cameras. Unmount them from wherever they are, and try them with a different power supply.

The MP doesn't matter so much as the resolution? That's good to know, I've been thinking for years that they were different words for the same thing.

Option 3 should be relatively easy if your host and your guest are both ubuntu, but you're not clear on what the host is running.

Nice to know, I still have a small fleet of 207's out there. Only problem I've had is with 2 207-W's going bad, fortunately one within a year (warranty replacement), the other not so much. However, they were both placed 3" from a speaker, which seems more than coincidental. (have since moved th...

Try the axis ip/mpeg4/, rtp/rtsp/http preset, change your path from to /0 and src to user:pass@ip.addr.ess see if that works If all else fails, you can probably make it an ffmpeg feed. I'm assuming you're using zm 1.24.2. Obviously adjust the resolution settings to whatever the camera's spitting out.

Do you have zms processes running when you're attempting to view them? Perhaps the cgi's in the wrong place or has the wrong permissions? Do any cameras work? Is it complaining about shared memory in the logs?
