The Cold... And cameras!
In the UK we've had some amazingly cold weather for the past three weeks or so. Rarely going above freezing, I've recorded -15c personally and had several days concurrently of around -10c. As well as the chaos this is causing the plumbing on our three stableyards, I've also had some issues with the ...

Pretty much all that is doable, with one exception. Sound. ZM doesn't do sound. *However* - most cameras allow you to view them directly, and if using mpeg4 as a stream, VLC will certainly allow two concurrent streams and more. (In a web browser, many require activex which is IE only, and IE doesn't...

I'm not experienced with analogue stuff, but that looks like a four channel Bt878 card, which your distro appears to have correctly identified. Have you tried simply plugging in a camera and trying to view /dev/video0 through /dev/video3 with video software? I think there's a fair chance it'll just ...

Note: It's entirely possible I've misunderstood this completely and am about to make an arse of myself. If that's so, please let me down gently... Do you mean MPEG4 instead of RTSP? RTSP is an alternative to HTTP for transport but afaik, still delivers an MPEG4 instead of MJPEG or JPG. You can get m...

This might work; Create two monitors for each camera. The first one is normal modect and doesn't send anything anywhere. This is the one you check normally. The second you setup to send to ftp/phone whatever, but limit the entries under the camera's 'buffer' section. Limit pre and post to 1 or 2 fra...

It's best for security to put the server elsewhere, so if it gets torched or trashed you have some evidence. However, two things to consider which often prevent this from working well. 1. Reliability of remote networks. Not as good as local wired networks. 2. Bandwidth. This will restrict the qualit...

Just a thought, keeping it simple; Avoid zoneminder entirely. Add a PIR sensor (or old PIR light with the light bit removed) that activates a siren or lights as well. If lights, that will trigger an event, so you have a record of what goes on. Of course, will need some careful aiming to ensure cats ...
