Mitch, thank you very much for your kind reply. My supplier carries ACTI and AXIS. Axis looks reputable, I'm testing their support for a cheap camera (1011W) and they are responsive, although they weren't able to make it work in wireless. I am looking at the AXIS 223M, but I'm intrigued by the possi...

but, according to Mobotix, ZM would have no use with their cameras, because the frame analysis is made in the cam.

So what would be the purpose to use ZM with Mobotix?!

And I believe that the software they enclose to manage or view the events is for Windows only.

megapixel cameras, or Mobotix alternatives

hello All,

I have read about the Mobotix concept, 3 megapixel camera with 8GB on board storage to reduce network traffic.

Too bad that it's a "Windows" solution.

Is there an alternative for us Penguin lovers?

it seems that this can be done with a cron job and run state.

I guess it has to be a root cron job.

Am I correct?

set recording/modect by the hour

hello All,

is there a way to set a monitor something like this:

- from 6pm to 8am modect
- from 8am to 6pm monitor

If I could set times, I could create two different monitors on the same cam and shift mode by the hour.

thanks for your time,
cheers,

thanks for your kind reply.

Now I have a very silly question.

Is the camera or ZM that is generating network traffic?
I mean, if the cameras are on, and ZM is off, is the network quiet?

Your suggestion makes me feel that cameras generate traffic only when ZM asks for frames.

Am I correct?

how to save network bandwidth?

hello All, before I deploy my system with 6-7 cameras, I am worried about what I should do to save network bandwidth. The office LAN has gigabit switches, but I would like to start with the correct setup from scratch. Some cameras will be setup to record the manufacturing process, and so they could ...

Panasonic vs Axis

hello All, I am testing two cameras, the Axis 1011W and Panasonic BL-C20, before I buy a substantial number of them. Although I think the Axis has an advantage on the software side, being so "Linux" compatible, I was very disappointed by the optics, which show a marked field curvature, and...

thanks for your kind reply.

So, should I change the camera setup to something like, "no motion detection"?

-Gian

p.s. maybe you can give me a hint: events are recorded (I can directly access the files), however I can't see them in the console, it just shows a broken icon.

use camera modect or ZM's?

hello All,

my camera has motion detection, should I use this feature and relieve ZM from it?

I guess I'd save some cpu cycles.

If the answer is yes, which parameters are relevant for setup?

thanks for your time.
