BT848 is a chip. Many cards are based on it. We need to know what card.

As to size, some include the actual Linux distribution, and some just the ZM package.

Your card may be misdetected. Can you get a picture with xawtv? If not, you will need to manually configure your card. Post a new thread with a picture of your card and the output of "lspci" and we can help.

What does 'lspci' show in both Gutsy and Intrepid? You can check with the Live CD, so you do not need to reinstall...

As wast stated, get a longer lens, or go all digital. The All Digital option will be expensive, both on cameras, and the the ZM system you will need. The fact is, CSI is fake, no matter what you do.

xawtv can use v4l2, but zoneminder is only v4l, so that could be your problem. Also, usb has a nasty habit of moving with each reboot.
