I would use motion detection. I would also stick in 4 gig, as ram is cheap, but your don't need it. You never mentioned CPU, but any dual core will be fine. You will not be viewing on that station. If you do no motion detect, you will fill that drive fast.

Better in most. Missing some features, and a different look and feel from everything out there.

Cheaper. (Unless you get the real junk stand-alones)

There are some we use, but we buy in bulk direct from China. Yes, some are total junk.

Zoneminder will run on anything. At what speed is the question? Home many cameras? What rate? IP, USB or analog?

You need to stop the zoneminder process first. It is still "in the database" when you fix it.

I buy from China. The only way is to buy a lot of different ones and test them. Many will not work. They may also change in between shipments... Fun stuff.

I guess zone minder would recongise any PCI DVR card in a PC. but which make/type would be recommended as I intend to use wireless and wired cams.
Totally wrong. Many cards do not have linux drivers. You can experiment yourself, or go the the shop linked to from here.

That is an analog camera, and will require a composite input. If you need hardware that will "just work" a few seconds of research will show items that "just work." And they are usually not the cheapest hun of junk on the net.

A linux supported composite input device. USB can be an issue, so I would get a card.
