Re: FPS Report Interval oddity

Update to my post: I just figured out that the FPS Report Interval is actually the number of frames between logging the reports. My cams are set to capture at 6 fps, so when I had FPS Report Interval set to 1000 the reports would be logged every 1000/6 seconds (166.6 seconds or about 2.8 minutes). S...

FPS Report Interval oddity

Running 1.30.4 on Ubuntu 18.04. Installed via one of the "easy way" scripts covered on the wiki. I've been running 7 IP cams for a while now, no real issues. But I did notice something odd that I'll share... I've setup each of my cams the same, which includes the Misc monitor setting "...

Re: Running a private net for your cams? Consider installing ntpd to serve them

Kind of a follow-up to my first post. It turns out that chronyd will go offline & exit if the network drops. It's a feature, not a bug. The man page hints at the reason behind this. So, it's typical to mitigate this by setting up an hourly cron script to restart chronyd if it's inactive/dead. Th...

Re: Zoneminder stops and won't restart

In the past, when I had issues with some installs & I wasn't sure if it was due to a shortage of memory or other resources, I'd: - Log into the ZM console as admin - Stop ZM - Then reconfigure all cams function to "none" and uncheck "enabled" - Configure logging for debugging...

Re: Server OS Upgrade Performance hit (Ubuntu 18.04)

I'm running an AMD processor. I tested "spectre_v2=off" alone and then included "nopti pti=off" & tested again. I didn't see much more improvement with the added "nopti pti=off", so I just boot with "spectre_v2=off" .

Re: How to create image of ZM computer?

I've tried and used several solutions for imaging Linux and Windows disks over the years. I always end up sticking with Clonezilla. I can do just about everything I need with it, including imaging to files on a central NAS (via samba/CIFS). Performance wise, Clonezilla is way faster than dd and more...

Re: Server OS Upgrade Performance hit (Ubuntu 18.04)

Did you do a minimum install with a net install iso? I use that in lieu of a server install as I can get a really minimal system. I do not need the containers or other stuff in a server install to run ZM. I have not noticed a performance hit with Bionic but have to admit my test platform uses just ...

Re: Server OS Upgrade Performance hit (Ubuntu 18.04)

I'm assuming you upgraded the same PC/server to 18.04 - so, no hardware changes (other than the SSD). So, according to this: https://blog.ubuntu.com/2018/01/12/meltdown-and-spectre-status-update , 17.04's kernel never got any of the Spectre or Meltdown mitigations. However, 18.04 does have all the m...

Running a private net for your cams? Consider installing ntpd to serve them

So, I tripped over this issue recently & I thought I'd share info on it. I recently setup a new 1.30.4 ZM system on Xubuntu 18.04. For various reasons, I chose to setup a private net for the cams. In essence: added a gigabit NIC to the server, established a private subnet for it and hooked the c...

Re: ZM Server Optimization Comments

The Intel Atom C2758 CPU and SM Atom motherboard are specifically targeted for low power servers - so I'm assuming low power use is a priority for you. The "more cores are better than fewer faster cores" ideology has merit in some applications. It's kind of a dated notion nowadays though. ...

zms and zm_signal: "Got signal 6 (Aborted), crashing"

Installed zoneminder 1.30.4 (via one of the "Easy way" scripts on the wiki) onto Ubuntu 18.04. Set up 5 IP cams: 1280x1024, 8bit greyscale, cams set to 6fps. Have been running this for several days now & am getting good performance and quality. But, I had one nagging issue: I'd periodi...
