Re: Priorities ram? Cores? GPU?

Sure. But logfile and database IO is substantial on a ZM server monitoring lots of cams, which usually means - for an ssd based root fs - having /var mounted on a mechanical drive too. That is, if you want to greatly reduce numerous small writes to the ssd. That added complexity to run an ssd root f...

Re: Priorities ram? Cores? GPU?

Cams are Trendnet TV-IP320PI. These are apparently a re-branded Hikvision DS-2CD2012-I. Look the same & same specs. Supposedly I could install Hikvision's firmware but I'm just sticking with Trendnet's latest firmware (which is fairly recent). I found mine on Amazon. Trendnet also sells these as...

Re: Vstarcam and ZM 1.30.0 in Raspbian

The most likely cause is ZM cannot allocate enough shared memory. The shared mem usage you showed is probably not applicable because the capture daemon is probably not running because it crashed. This can give you some background info: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Math_for_Memory_-_knowing_how_much_m...

Re: Priorities ram? Cores? GPU?

Wow thanks for the comprehensive reply! I've been doing some research on the ryzen. What kind of camera setup do you have attached to that system? Currently, 6 1.3MP Trendnet/Hikvision IP cams and an analog BTTV capture card for 3 720x480 B&W analog cams. I'll eventually add 3 more IP cams and ...

Re: Priorities ram? Cores? GPU?

This is just from my experience and knowledge. I'm sure others have different notions on priorities and details. So take what I say here with a few grains of salt. First priority is motherboard. ZM is IO intensive for ram, disk and network. Much of this IO relies on the PCIe bus(es). If you're doing...

Re: RTP vs Ffmpeg

Curious, I googled a bit on the Xiaomi Dafang cams. Looks like Xiaomi and Wyze make the same models. From what I could tell, the cams don't officially support rtsp. They're really optimized for iOS/Android phone use and a proprietary cloud service. To get rtsp, you have to install firmware hacks. Th...

Re: RTP vs Ffmpeg

If you are using ZM 1.30.4, have you tried setting the monitor to Source Type libvlc to see how well that works? What version of operating system are you using? What version of ffmpeg? I'm running ZM 1.30.4 of Ubuntu 18.04. FFmpeg version 3.4. Several Trendnet/Hikvision IP cams (h264 via rtsp over T...

Re: RTP vs Ffmpeg

... I do have a couple of questions: - How do I set an RSTP stream to TCP in stead of UDP in Zoneminder? - What do you mean by setting the (key) frames, where do I set that? In ZM, the monitor option to set the stream to TCP/UDP appears in the "source" tab, if you've set the camera to ffm...

Re: RTP vs Ffmpeg

First things I do when struggling with a new IP cam include: - Log into the camera and check all the settings for sanity. I'll set the frame rate low, to 3 or 5 FPS. I'll make sure the network settings are perfect. -Set the cam to rtsp via TCP rather than UDP. Set ZM monitor for the cam to use rtsp ...

Re: Storage usage is wrong

... I think 5% of 100G is a little bit to much for journaling, etc as jwarfin mean. Yeah, sorry about that. But I finally remembered what this storage issue is really about... When you format a Unix/Linux partition, a number of reserved blocks are allocated during formatting. The default amount of ...

Re: Running a private net for your cams? Consider installing ntpd to serve them

A further follow-up: [ FYI: this is related to my work with ZM on Ubuntu 18.04 ] Despite setting up the chronyd watchdog script, I'd still see chronyd exit sometimes or not always start at boot. Some googling found this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chrony/+bug/1779621 Basically, if the...

Re: Storage usage is wrong

I think this has been discussed before: https://forums.zoneminder.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26791&p=103589&hilit=disk+utilization#p103584 The issue is due to the php functions used to calc disk usage. I've looked into this too for 1.30.4 because I saw 4% disk usage when the events partiti...

Re: zmc cpu usage with monitor and h264 passthrough

The stream has to be decoded. Otherwise, how could you view the live video via the ZM GUI? I have little experience with 1.31.x (so far), but I expect the h264 passthrough feature allows recording the stream frames directly to disk without re-encoding. That would present less CPU load. But, after lo...

Re: zmc cpu usage with monitor and h264 passthrough

I looked at this thread and disabled the Spectre V2 and page table isolation mitigations (confirmed the grub settings took effect at next boot via dmesg). It actually increased my CPU utilization. A single monitor, no recording, set to h264 passthrough is now taking 80-90% CPU. The Linux Spectre pa...

Re: Melting image

Are all the cams running the same firmware version? How about settings? Are each cam's internal settings the same? I'm referring to the settings in each cam, not the Zomeminder monitor settings for each cam. It sounds like 1 of the cams works and 2 don't so... If the cams have any internal settings ...
