Re: What hardware you running ZoneMinder on?

I've put a ton of equipment in warehouses, and frankly the answer is don't. :) There's almost always a network closet somewhere which is not only in better conditions, but the warehouse maintenance guy is less likely to come "help" you by "fixing" things. Last warehouse I did we ...

Re: Archive (or act upon) images at intervals

I am VERY stupid. Pursuing this I found out several things that made this complicated mess simple. Sorry I explained it so poorly. My first approach was to use cron triggers, and experimenting with triggered events I found the documentation is incorrect - it says it works only with NoDetect, but it ...

Re: Archive (or act upon) images at intervals

Thank you. With 6-8 cameras that's a lot of duplication (and stream decode, I think -- I need to experiment but it appears zoneminder is decoding a video stream instead of grabbing stills from the camera... but that may be my misunderstanding), however it gives me a different idea I want to explore ...

Re: Archive (or act upon) images at intervals

I'm guessing the silence means this just doesn't work out of the box. I've been experimenting with an alternative that I think might work. Reactions welcome. I was going to run a script at intervals (reasonably fast, say 30 seconds), which will query all frames recorded (all monitors in MoRecord). I...

Archive (or act upon) images at intervals

I am testing Blue Iris at the same time as ZoneMinder, and there is one aspect that I cannot seem to replicate in Zoneminder. It seems very straightforward, and it may be that there are too many different ways to approach it in Zoneminder and I can't find the right one. I want to archive images (sti...

Re: Motion detection just escapes me - suggestions?

Your screenshots did not attach unfortunately, so we can't see your camera view. I tried again and see that there is a very small error message that appears saying "quota has been reached". Interesting that it says at the bottom I can attach, but the quota is zero. It is not importa...

Re: Motion detection just escapes me - suggestions?

OK, I am really confused. It's working just fine inside. The only thing I found was that looked a bit strange is that the difference image had less contrast than I would have expected. But it's not really inconsistent with what I get when I run it through photoshop. More of a surprise, and maybe I n...

Re: Motion detection just escapes me - suggestions?

Well, I may need to reconsider. First, while still outside, I dropped the frame rate to 1/2 and managed to ftp the images off when I bug flew by (not expecting it to alarm it was small). The diagnostic image showed it perfectly in the difference frame. So I brought the whole thing inside and pointed...

Re: Motion detection just escapes me - suggestions?

It helps to get a better understanding of how the zone detection algorithm works. Iterating through all the pre-set options is usually never going to work. Please see if this helps in your understanding: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Understanding_ZoneMinder%27s_Zoning_system_for_Dummies...

Motion detection just escapes me - suggestions?

I am experimenting, and have two cameras set up. One is a tablet streaming from its webcam (1280x720 @ 30fps), and the other is a Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I I just bought. The tablet's motion detection works perfectly, despite being a relatively poor image. The image from the real other camera is great,...

Re: Trying Zoneminder, Mobile skin, URL error in image

And to get back to the main topic, thanks much for a quick fix! I should probably have dug deeper first.

Is there a good architecture guide for someone who wanted to start looking at the code? Basic structure of running subsystems and which does what at a high level?

Re: Trying Zoneminder, Mobile skin, URL error in image

You've arrived at the conclusion you better run a wire, no matter how hot the attic is, rather than use WiFi for your cameras. I like you already. Oh yes. I've managed jobs that did huge warehouses with wireless devices for automation, I'm not anti-wireless, but there is a real tradeoff of reliabil...

Re: Trying Zoneminder, Mobile skin, URL error in image

If you are building your own app or your own DIY project, I absolutely recommend going the API way. I hope I am not. I'm a programmer at heart, but it's mostly database and larger systems, windows if pressed; programming for mobile devices has so far been off the radar. Though one never kno...

Re: Trying Zoneminder, Mobile skin, URL error in image

Thank you asker. If the mobile skin isn't getting any love in favor of the API, does that mean some of the mobile programs are worthwhile? I took a brief look and one wouldn't work at all, and the other which did connect had not been updated (at least the paid version) in 3 years, so I thought maybe...

Trying Zoneminder, Mobile skin, URL error in image

Am trying 1.28.1 on Ubuntu 15.04 in evaluating what software to use for a DIY project, and am making good progress, but ran into an error and would appreciate help in where to look. I am running the package from here: ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-master It generally has been working (once I figured out I ...
