OK, I'm a putz. I was doing the conversion to Kb and Mb, but I had not done bits to bytes. (Width*Height*Depth*Buffer*Cameras+(1*overhead))/bytes/kilobytes/megabytes (640 *480 *24 *80 *16 +(1*.10) )/8 /1024 /1024 = 1,125 Mb RAM Also, does the shmall and shmmax need to be the same as the the first ex...

Shared Memory - 16 Cameras
Using the info I got here: What does a 'Can't shmget: Invalid argument .... I ran through the calculations for shared memory and I think I am either way off or I need to get much more RAM. I'm building up 16 cameras and would prefer to run them at 640x480 with 10fps and 24bit color. It seems 40 fram...

Best OS, Most Compatible, Easiest with ZM?
I'm building several new systems with a Dell Studio Core2 Quad with 8gb RAM, 1x 320gb, and 2x 1tb drives. The server is planned to be headless and accessed remotely. I will have physical access, but web and SSH (maybe FeeeNX) LAN and VLAN remote access will be the primary method. My current boxes ar...

Amazon has these Q-See cameras at a good price. Infrared and weatherproof with 60ft cables and basic mounts.

Ahh, missed that you are using IP. Good cameras though.

Record as long as there is motion?
What am I doing wrong?
I want to record as long as there is any motion occurring on the camera. I seem to primarily get these 3-4 second recordings wher you can see someone walk into view, then walk halfway across, then end of recording.
What do I need to look for to adjust this?
