Re: Recommendation for outdoor camera?

Be careful when buying cheap, no name brand cameras. Poor quality cameras can become maintenance headaches.

Wired is always better. There are surge protectors if lightning is a concern.

Re: Help with sizing / settings

Are you sure the Xeon-like CPUs are ok for video decoding? I don't remember where I read but for this type of things is better to have some multimedia CPU extension. Yes, Xeon or the AMD server CPUs. You have to cite that reference. It doesn't make sense. You are saying a consumer CPU is more power...

Re: ZM Server with GPU... any benefit? Or more benefit on viewer/client side?

Our operating environment to be replaced by ZM is primarily: - 1 back end NVR servers monitoring about 40 old (lower resolution) cameras. - 1 front end client workstation with several monitors to display/monitor the cameras from the NVR's - The front end cilent has a couple GPU's in it to power the...

Re: Which Linux distro should I use

What document says ubuntu is not well supported? Debian / Ubuntu are the best distros for beginners. Fedora is supported as well. See install docs on the https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Contents specifically the Ubuntu and Debian docs. Either should work. https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu https://wiki....

Re: Help with sizing / settings

Generally when I think lower CPU, I think lower FPS / Resolution, but those aren't options here. Besides that, You can lower the pre and post image buffer. You can also adjust the zones. Use less, and make them as small as possible. You didn't mention what your settings are in Zoneminder but it make...

Re: How to add storage area at host filesystem to zm in docker container?

This is a docker question, not a ZM question. Try docker resources. Typically you use Volumes for this. e.g. nginx: image: nginx:latest container_name: custom_name_for_my_proxy volumes: - ./nginx.conf:/etc/nginx/nginx.conf - /etc/letsencrypt/:/etc/letsencrypt/ - ./webroot/:/var/www/html/ Here the fi...

Re: ARM64 / Raspberry Pi 4

ARM has limited support with Docker in general. Many common images just don't exist for ARM.

Technically, if it can install on ARM, you might be able to get it to work, but I doubt it's worth the trouble.

Re: ZM 1.34 on Debian 10

Uh, you can always reinstall mariadb/mysql afterwards. As long as you have a db backup (https://wiki.zoneminder.com/MySQL)

You should execute the fix broken install prompt, IMO.

See https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Hardware_Co ... eo_Encoder

I'd recommend this:

Search on auction sites for ip video encoder, and you can probably find a 16 channel vers.

Re: Upgrade recomendations

You apparently did not search very much, as there are a number of posts here regarding upgrades. In any case, just try to upgrade, and then when you come across an error, search the forum, or post in this thread. Most importantly, take a backup of the DB before you upgrade. wiki.zoneminder.com/MySQL...

Re: Unable to connect to ZM db.could not find driver [Debian buster]

If you are using apache, it's handled by an apache command.

Code: Select all

a2enmod
or
a2dismod.
Disable the old php (e.g. a2dismod php7.0)
and enable the new one. You can find version numbers in /etc/php.

Re: moving out from docker

All settings are stored in the db. Events, however may be lost. You 'can' save events, but it's more trouble, so if you don't need them, then just backup and restore the db from docker. # Backup docker exec CONTAINER /usr/bin/mysqldump -u root --password=root DATABASE > backup.sql # Restore cat back...
