Re: Help in getting me started with right threshold values?

Great thanks - yes I've read the Wiki several times to try and confirm my understanding. I'm extremely pleased with my ZM settings for zones and owe you a beer. I followed your overall advice and split zones based on distance instead of putting them together. Very very good advice. As of now, I'm ge...

Re: RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Hi PacoLM, thank you! So far the results are extremely positive. I'll continue to monitor my monitors :-) I kept all my cameras in modect all through yesterday and I only found two frames with smearing - and that is in my basement which is farthest away from my router. I've reduced in camera FPS to ...

Re: HOWTO:Zoneminder recording if your 'iPhone' is out of ho

Hi Sime, no my device is not jailbroken. Considering the amount of modifications I keep doing, I am surprised its not  Yes, I quite like the iCloud method, but the only problem is "pyIcloud" is a web scraper. It's not really using iCloud APIs (Apple doesn't expose it to web developers as fa...

Re: HOWTO:Zoneminder recording if your 'iPhone' is out of ho

Sime, I first used ping - that would predictably fail every time the iPhone went to sleep. Then I tried arping - that would randomly fail too. Maybe an iPhone thing? I ping my blackberry passport and my gf's on a 5 minute cron and it respond flawlesslly.... I can ping it all night without a single d...

NOT recording on SIGNAL for a remote camera

Hi, once or twice a day, I get an alarm event with an id of "SIGNAL". This is for remote cameras. On reviewing the frames, I notice that a couple of frames are all grey. I assume this means there was a temporary drop of Wi-Fi. How do I make sure ZM does _not_ record events with Signal loss? I only s...

Re: HOWTO:Zoneminder recording if your 'iPhone' is out of ho

Hello Christo, thank you! Can you tell me exactly how? I've gotten very random results - the iPhone sometimes responds sometimes not (even with count 5). I am doing arping IP-of-iphone (its static in my LAN). I've tried it several times - at times, there is 0 response irrespective of whether the pho...

Re: RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Try setting up the maximum FPS in the ipcam web interface and leave the field as empty in your ZM box. Thanks, I've set in-camera FPS to 5, and Key frame interval to 15. Kept FPS overrides blank at ZM. I'll let you know how it goes. Out of curiosity, what is your thought process behind this change?...

Re: RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Okay, so the smudging started again and I've been trolling other threads here and in the foscam forum. Some notes: a) Adding ?tcp to the URL makes ZM go berserk - I get logs saying "Unable to open input rtsp://xxx:xxx@xxxxxxxx:20001/videoMain?tcp due to: Operation now in progress" for all my streams...

Re: Help in getting me started with right threshold values?

Kkroft, thanks for linking to your post. It was extremely useful. I've made excellent progress. Can you confirm if my understanding is right - I am not sure if ZM is applying each layer of checks on the complete area or the area detected by the previous layer of checks For example, take the zone on ...

Re: RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Thanks Bbunge, On ?tcp, I think that would depend on the camera supporting that parameter and from what I've read, I don't believe Foscams support it. I am using the following workaround instead: Instead of using my internal IPs for monitoring, I am routing it through my ddns (public) IP and in my r...

Re: RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Okay, so here is my analysis: a) During transcoding, it seems FFMPEG is smudging an RTSP stream rather often. My guess I can play with options somewhere in ffmpeg? b) If I use libvlc, there is no smudging, but it hogs all my CPU (97-98% consistent) and every once in a while I get green frames for lo...

RTSP stream, image smudging and ZM Warnings

Hello, I am trying to debug the following situation: My ZM is monitoring a Foscam 9831W camera (1280x960) Very often, when looking at live view, or even timeline recordings, I see the recorded image is "smudged" significantly Around that time I get this problem, no errors are generated, no buffer ov...

I figure it's a problem with the vlc version I'm using. Is there a way to find out what version of vlc was used to test ZoneMinder 1.28.1?
Have you tried FFMPEG instead of VLC? Looks like your camera supports RTSP (as does mine) and FFMPEG seems to work fine

Re: Help in getting me started with right threshold values?

Nerre, yes there is - note the pillars - they have grooves in them - they seem to always cause havoc with ZM's detection - I think the shadow play is quite large there and depending on small lighting variations, ZM seems to always think there is activity on the pillars. So instead of overlaying 3 in...
