Re: Cannot write to content dirs('events','images')

When you say "I can create...", who is "I" ... root, an ordinary user, or otherwise? It sounds like you might have a permissions problem. Maybe the hint is the 2nd half of the error message :- "and are owned by the web account user" What does "ls -la /usr/share/zoneminder/" "ls -la /usr/share/zonemi...

Re: day/night IP bandwidth load

Hmmm. Joined 4 minutes before first posting, to resurrect an old thread, with an irrelevant reply. If there was a referral link to buy the D3100 at amazon (for a kickback to the link poster), then I'd say it's spam. Otherwise, it's just very badly targetted advertising. ETA: Of course the "!" button...

Re: video export seems worse quality than watching footage?

Glad you sorted it, you can turn the quality and file size down using -q:v 2 .... 9 (larger = worse quality) until you thing it looks bad. Should have said: My cameras are 640x480, so at higher resolutions -q:v 1 may be a lot bigger than I thought :) No idea about Windows compatibility, I use VLC/Xi...

Re: video export seems worse quality than watching footage?

@alabamatoy -- those *are* the settings from ZoneMinder :) (Look under the FFMPEG_OPTIONS settings):

What I meant was that FFMPEG (inside OR outside of ZM) needs guiding as to what you expect it to do. If you don't, the defaults can be less than useful.

Re: video export seems worse quality than watching footage?

Are there options? Yes there are, sometimes when throwing video at FFMPEG (outside of ZoneMinder) it seems to pick the most horrid quality possible to remind you to read the manual and do something about it. I use :- -r 25 -q:v 1 -f avi -vtag XVID -g 30 -bf 2 -vf "hqdn3d,lutyuv=y=gammaval(1.4),unsha...

Re: Zoneminder permission problem 1.32.3

Have you fixed the error in the path you are using yet? Somewhere you have accidentally added a space to the end of the "path to store events" entry and ended up with this ... /media/sdb1/zoneminder/events /8/2018-12-20/41 This path does not exist: You have a directory called "events" and are trying...

Re: Zoneminder permission problem 1.32.3

Of course you can't just strip *all* spaces out, as some people actually use them! (Although a trailing space like that is evil ...)

How do you know which spaces to strip? :)

Re: Not able to view some events

I think you're right. BTW "Key frame" is basically the same as "I" frame that I referred to (MPEG terminology). This "long GOP" situation is very good for keeping bitrates down. But it is why some videos can take a couple of seconds to get back to normal after a bit of corrupt data, or are hard to s...

Re: Not able to view some events

To completely misquote Tony Hancock ... "Six frames? That's barely a GOP!" I can well believe that some software may not cope well with such a trivial video snippet. Of course, if that's the actual length of the event (e.g 2 FPS, 3 seconds long) then you probably expect it to work. But formats like ...

someone could cut the power cable which provides power in the house (and in the surveillance system that I will build). Addressing this point specifically, as you are designing the system, budget for a UPS . It doesn't have to be huge. It does have to have a way of keeping your cameras, any IP-netw...

Re: Duplicated files/folders

It's not really in both locations -- if you look closely you should see that the numbered directories are real, and the "named" directories are symbolic links to them (for convenience/user friendly use). You may find the same if you start poking about inside the directories, a folder called ".123456...

Re: Suse Leap and cifs: using a dedicated hard drive

... which means your underlying file system probably *is* something usable (ext2-3-4) and it's just that the CIFS/SMB implementation is only expecting to talk to DOS level computers.

Glad you sorted it.

Re: Suse Leap and cifs: using a dedicated hard drive

What file system is your NAS using? FAT? ext2/3/4? NTFS? A lot of these cheaper/lower end NAS boxes still use FAT file systems internally that don't know a thing about permissions and ownership, and so the NAS (or linux) may have to fake up some answers for you when accessed over the network. I have...

Re: Polygons must not intersect

My last comment was partly a joke, but the point was serious: Trying to create tiny "avoidance" areas like that seems a lot of effort, gives ZM more work to do, and seems remarkably precise as to the shape of the thing you are cutting round. Hint: Look at "exclusion" zones too, as they can be used t...
