Re: A Onvif 360 degree camera can work with ZM?

.. it's probably because the forum is for Zoneminder and support. In the past certain posters have decided to abuse the forum by complaining how bad ZM is at everything they want it to do/imagine it should do, followed by spamming their favoured competitor product ... That's what's low. I'm sure the...

Re: this just happened overnight

the only way to get zm back is to fully reboot the server since restarting the service doesn't do it. Crashing aside, that bit disturbs me most. It normally takes a hardware-confusion to require a reboot/power cycle to fix. This is not Windows in the 1990's -- "It appears you have moved the mouse. ...

Re: this just happened overnight

the one thing we do not ever stand for is ANY reason for something to crash. You are correct, and it's a good thing to strive for. In practice, sometimes it doesn't happen. On a positive note, I'm sure the ZM developers know this principle too, but need more "hands on deck" to find the bugs/risk po...

Re: this just happened overnight

It doesn't matter whether it's a fresh install or not, or how much hard drive/shared memory you have -- although running out of those is bad too! What I'm saying is that if you change the resolution at the camera, or Zoneminder, while it is running, and they disagree on the size of the picture for e...

Re: this just happened overnight

I like how you broke things down and how you 'fixed' the image :). How did you do that? GIMP, De-interlace filter (although the picture isn't interlaced, it gets rid of every other line which clears up most of the mess). Then re-scale to 16:9 aspect (as everything looks thin at 4:3 -- unlike ZM I a...

Re: Zoneminder keeps crashing

It can help to reduce resolution, you are correct.

Very important: You need to reduce the resolution at the camera sending end, as well as the Zoneminder receiving end. And they must exactly match.

It sound like you have only changed it at Zoneminder, which is now trying to tell you to sort it out.

Re: this just happened overnight

Although you've changed nothing, you've not said what resolution the camera is supposed to be returning, vs the resolution you've set in Zoneminder It looks like the camera is delivering fewer pixels per line than you are telling ZM to interpret. Measuring off your PNG in GIMP, I make it about 320 p...

Re: date format problem

Do not mix computer stored data and data presented to humans by computers. I'm not mixing them up. As a human, I find it utterly baffling when programs present data in formats that make it hard to understand. So the formats I mentioned such a "05 02 19", which is the 5th of February this year, 2nd ...

Re: date format problem

Disclosure: I'm non-American too. Personally, if any date formats are going to be hard coded in and enforced, I would much rather see YYYYMMDD enforced absolutely everywhere, because it is unambiguous, and naturally sorts correctly. Using DDMMYYYY vs MMDDYYYY in a "who's right, America or UK?" battl...

Re: day/night IP bandwidth load

Could the increase in data (data rate) be because the camera is trying to encode an image that is more noisy than in daytime? The penalty of trying to work in reduced light level?

If the camera is encoding at constant-quality, the data rate will go up to represent the noise.

Steve's response was in relation to an interloping posting by Spam Smith (now deleted), and my subsequent mention that the "Report Spam" button was broken. It is *that* which is fixed (by tinkering with servers). Thanks Steve.

Re: Filter by date/time shows one wrong result per day

If you mean the first event in the list, around midnight, then it is exactly what you asked for. It's just not what you meant to ask for ;) Start: 01/28 23:50 (Monday) End: 01/29 00:00:00 (Tuesday) Think about each filter line ... Starts on Monday or later. Yes. Ends on Friday or less. Yes. Starts a...

While you're tinkering, can you look to see why the "Report Post" button gives an instant 404 Error? (It happened before, and was fixed, but it's back :( )

Re: Image degradation

See other posts regarding "FFMPEG Smearing" tips and also try switching from UDP to TCP, as UDP (by design) will drop packets now and then. TCP is designed to not allow that sort of thing. It looks like you have data corruption part way down the frame leading to the rest being blurry. Also, try turn...

Yes, I say I - I mean root, Ah well, a lot of things work when you are root, which fail when you are an ordinary user. This is why the permissions need to be correct. Running and testing as root is not a good solution. Apologies for the ls -la example error, didn't notice your extra "www" there! ro...
