Re: Duration 00:00:00

Yet another one -- they are coming thick and fast lately :) "Can't symlink .... Operation not supported." The error message should have said "Your file system for events seems to suck. Please use a fully featured file system, written with real users in mind, not some poor quality Windows junk." Seri...

Re: ZM writes empty events folders to SMB share

Agreed. :(

Either there should be a massive warning on ZoneMinder's documentation: "Do not use half-baked file systems", or ZM should pro-actively test what kind of filesystem you are using and send you a clear message, saying "This is never going to work" :)

Re: ZM and Ubuntu 18.04: External Hard Drive Folder can't be accessed after time

"ls: reading directory '.': Input/output error" Never mind the usual caution to avoid NTFS/DOS/FAT partitions (as they don't work for ZoneMinder -- they don't support symbolic links), I worry about the hardware you are using given the error you quote. The upgrade to Ubuntu may be a coincidence. Plea...

Re: ZM writes empty events folders to SMB share

@bbunge it's not necessarily an actual NAS -- note the OP says "running in a virtual machine" and "save on a drive on the server ..." which could be the same machine, just outside the VM's little 20GB play-pen :)

Re: ZM writes empty events folders to SMB share

What is the file system type on this "SMB Share" -- if it's FAT (DOS-Windows) based then it will not work, as it does not understand symbolic links as used by ZoneMinder -- you need a proper file system (ext2/3/4) that has all the Unixy features. Also permission can be a pain on some SMB/FAT style s...

Re: How to delete many events quickly?

ZM Audit has never (as far as I know) left behind a load of entries when the files are gone. More likely it enthusiastically wipes database entries at the first sign the files are missing! Maybe others could suggest how to give ZM audit a kick to do the right thing, if the files have gone -- I'm not...

Re: Event name should update prior to playing next/previous event

Same wrinkle when trying to hit "Archive"/"Unarchive" on an event. Sometimes I end up tagging the neighbouring event because although I'm looking at the event I want, "something" hasn't updated, and the request to "Archive" gets applied to the previous? video. I swear I'm not as incompetent as Zonem...

Re: How to delete many events quickly?

It's not that it might delete something else: That command will NOT delete the buried jpgs deep into the tree. You are expecting too much from just adding "-r" :) My point was it won't recurse looking for jpegs. The "*.jpg" will be expanded by the shell as "there are no jpgs in this current director...

Re: How to delete many events quickly?

"rm -rf *.jpg" won't do what you mean, you'd need something more like cd /where/your/events/live/the/camera/the/date find . -type f -iname "*.jpg" -delete This will blow away all .jpgs from "here" down without further prompting! Make sure you're blowing the correct bits away :) ZM Audit will then ha...

Re: Filter to delete events more than 24 hours old

Point of "Archived Status" -- *I* want to expire unarchived (boring) events after 7 days or when disk is getting full. Separate rule exists that says expire archived ones at 14 days and never mind the disk space -- "archived" ones are ones being converted to video for keeping, and get to stick aroun...

Re: Filter to delete events more than 24 hours old

This seems to happen to a lot of people :) I think "less than" means "before" and "-24 hours" is "in the future". You work out what the result there is. I found that I got this to work with :- "Archived Status" equal to "Unarchived Only" "and" "Date" "less than" "24 hours ago" (note the time syntax ...

Re: raspberry pi and linux box for zoneminder

Blue screen with time and date usually means you have the resolution incorrect: The resolution of the camera must match the width and height you have selected in Zoneminder to the exact pixel. Check the size of the image the camera is returning (e.g. using VLC or another app that shows you the strea...

Re: raspberry pi and linux box for zoneminder

IP Cameras usually connect directly to the network, not via USB, and no need for a Raspberry PI at all. If you mean a USB based webcam, then you would need the PI (or something similar) to convert it to a streaming web-based/IP camera. There are software solutions for this (local webcam to network-s...

Re: SOLVED: Zoneminder causes Ventech cameras to reboot randomly

I'm still wondering what the "extra" data that's being sent by the camera is... It doesn't seem to convert to anything ASCII, and I don't recognize the format.
