As long as you have a nice raid array for drives and enough processing power you can handle megapixel cameras without issue. The tricks to have ZM doing the motion detection are to keep the zones as small as possible, switch to not possibly analyzing every frame, and jpeg optimization libraries. Sho...

Sorry for the confusion, the XML interface is only available with my patch, it may end up in the next public version but it is definitely not in the current version. As cordel mentioned you can directly access the sql backend and the perl scripts ZM uses if its something local, otherwise your only o...

What you want is possible (see my patch http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14008) but there is no documentation on the API as it really isn't a 'public' API. you have two options A) packetsniff when using the web frontend and doing what you want to do from your API, B) jump into the ja...

Thats correct, most of the current interface was AJAX I believe any AJAX interface with my patch will work in XML. I added a few other plugs for things that were only exported in HTML but I believe you should be able to do most everything with it. As for how to use it my XML patch I *believe* is a p...

Sorry I cannot say I know your exact issue, but have you considered restarting zoneminder every 15 days or so? It would take under a minute to probably restart and if it honestly takes atleast 30 days to present while maybe not the best solution it might do what you need.

I think actually it makes it harder. For one don't store things in a database if there isn't a good reason to do so. There is no lookup performance lost with the current flat file system, so there is no gain of a database. You mention high performance of a database but its pretty hard to beat the ti...

Zone Minder's motion detection is CPU intensive. I do not believe a netbook could handle the load of 4 cameras @ 640x480 with motion detection. 1 gig of ram and 250 gigs of space is more than enough there but cpu wise you are going to really not be able to keep up. In additional most portable hard d...

I was the same way. There are 3 main options out there: A) Touch Screens with a PC built in to the base/screen (downside is obviously cost, upside is all in one solution and easy) B) Touch Screens with a separate PC. You can actually get really nice touch screens on ebay super cheap, I grabbed some ...

I am no ffmpeg expert, have only done minimal work in the source code myself, but the short answer (and my 2 cents) I would say is no. Once a specific encoder/decoders is selected ffmpeg doesn't really need to spend any time in any of the other encoder/decoder code so while your binary and dependenc...
