if I install ffmpeg through apt-get I get this during ./configure... checking for x264_predict_16x16_init in -lx264... no checking for av_malloc in -lavutil... no configure: WARNING: libavutil.a may be required for MPEG streaming checking for avcodec_init in -lavcodec... no configure: WARNING: libav...

I had the same problem with the new ubuntu 10.04...no matter how I tried to compile ffmpeg it just wouldn't go...so I did 'apt-get install ffmpeg' and then installed zoneminder from source (albeit without ffmpeg support) =/

yeah i can see the sync issue would be difficult...especially since different connection speeds play back mjpeg motion at different rates... any plans on storing the actual mpeg video coming through the rtsp stream? adding a script to save a streaming mpeg (triggered by zm's motion detection) should...

bainssu, the static snapshot doesn't need to change by itself...zoneminder will keep fetching a fresh snapshot, and depending on what rate the camera can deliver the snapshots at - motion will either be choppy or smooth. enter the following configuration into zoneminder for the camera: Source Type: ...

the Vivotek 7138 (1.3mpix) looks very interesting (for a megapixel ipcam in the $270 price range), but searching these forums revealed that the 7131 (640x480 ipcam) is apparently plagued by a slow framerate (2-3fps) when retrieving jpg images (search for posts by kylejohnson). i'm not sure if this p...

if all 8 cameras are running at 352x288 black&white and you raise the ram to 1 or 2gb then that system might be able to handle 30fps =]

it's hard to recommend a config without knowing the resolution and framerate you'll be running the cameras at (i'm assuming you'll want color, because for b&w your config would be overkill). to give you an idea, i have 2x DCS-900 IP cameras doing modect (record motion) at 640x480*8fps = 2.5 mega...

Joe, your customer wants higher framerates but doesn't mind the interlacing in a 640x480 analog signal? or has that issue been addressed somehow? back on topic, I think the Vivotek IP7138 megapixel netcam for around $275 is a great deal. although you only get 7.5fps at 1280x1024, most megapixel netc...

Phew!

And its the 1.22.3-3 version which installs properly (as opposed to the "don't try to install this unless you like pain" -1 version)
excellent!

if u don't need ffmpeg, I just updated my guide (basic,no gui,stable)...

http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... .1_install

its a much quicker (although not as comprehensive) guide as the previous post...so basic debian knowledge is recommended.

sarge

hi, how difficult would it be to repackage your .deb for sarge? the dependencies i've pretty much figured out here: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Debian_3.1_install i've read that 1.22.3 uses newer sql statements which sarge doesn't support, so 1.22.2 would probably have to be used in the...

i can confirm good results on a Celeron 2.53GHz (512ram) with 2x DCS-900 (640x480 ~6fps) on modect (avg. 60% active area)

load average dropped from .6 to .4
idle CPU went from 66% to 76% :)

One question, i couldn't find much info on your suggestion to change the shared memory ( kernel.shmax = ##########) I have a weak system, PII 350, with like 768 MB Ram, and a 6GB HDD. What would you suggest for ########## in this case, or can you provide a link that will explain this shared memory ...
