Do you need 15fps?

There is a branch with x264 storage.

The cameras mentioned above already have two streams, and ZM has triggers which include motion detection from cameras.

The cameras run at 2688x1520 and target 24bit color. The largest zone I use is 28%. That cam also has two 1% zones. Total is about 30%. Using blobs, the preset of best, high sensitivity.

How big are your zones? I run (4) 4mp IP cameras, and (1) 3mp IP camera (can't find the 12/16mm 4mp), but the machine is not resource limited (8) core/(16) thread with 64GB memory. I run them all at max resolution (well beyond 1280x720, etc). As expected I have no issues. I plan to add more cameras....

Details of the camera you are trying to use might help. Like actual model.

What is frame rate on the camera ?
