Re: debugging load average and ZM jpeg saving vs shinob i h264

This is tricky. I'm not going to the board anymore, but I get an Email when there is a reply. Should I ignore it? Once my curiosity got the better of me and I read it, should I pretend that I didn't ? Would you rather not know that you didn't type this message for nothing and I did read it? I'm glad...

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

I see this is a sensitive subject. Feel free to look up my history on this forum if it makes you feel better and the different problems I encountered with mocord, dropped frames (likely because my 8 core system with SSD couldn't keep up with the load ZM needed, it was working better when I only had ...

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

Thanks for the answer orianajonathan. Note that I was mostly doing jpeg pulls, and for a reason, I had enough cameras that ZM could not keep up with 15 ffmpeg streams (and some older cameras were jpeg pull only). This worked perfectly fine for about 10 years until ZM broke it when I upgraded. That s...

Re: debugging load average and ZM jpeg saving vs shinob i h264

Oh, one thing I did forget: shinob i does not deal well with jpeg/mjpeg only cameras. If you have those, stick with ZM, but then again, maybe it was a clue to me that those cameras are 640x480, they're over 10 years old, and maybe I can afford some replacement H264 1080p camera for $30 a piece :)

Re: debugging load average and ZM jpeg saving vs shinob i h264

Kudos on your memory and piecing the 2 posts together. Indeed. honestly I stuck with ZM so much longer than I should have 1) ZM deals badly with 15 cameras in the 2Mpix range, by badly I mean that even with an SSD it cannot deal with the frames fast enough and would drop lots of data, including arou...

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

honestly, I had gotten less and less happy with ZM over time, but at least it worked-ish. Such breakage on upgrades that then goes and stays unfixed, just didn't work. I ended up upgrading to shinobi which someone went through the work of censoring so that it shows up as 'yahoo' instead of 'shi''no'...

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

So, am I out of luck? I spent quite a while gathering those errors, and I'm no closer to my system being fixed affter too many months of being broken.
I'm honestly about to give and replace everything with shinnobi :-/

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

For debug, I have LOG_LEVEL_SYSLOG to Info, is it enough to turn that to debug? Or do I need LOG_DEBUG + LOG_DEBUG_TARGET + LOG_DEBUG_LEVEL? If so, what target and what level? the vexing thing is that I have other http/simple cameras that do work still. It looks like the mmap code has issues and I c...

Re: 1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

Sorry, I'm confused. Are you saying that upgrades are known not to work and/or that debian is not supported, so I should delete my server with literally 20 years of history, wipe it, to install another distribution with a known history of lesser support (i.e. ubuntu)? If so, that's a bit of a hard s...

Re: broken debian upgrade to 1.30->1.32: multiple broken monitors

Back to rstp, is there a way to turn off attempts at audio processing in ZM 1.32? Without looking at the code, in 1.33 (and assuming also 1.32) audio is only recorded in FFMPEG and storage of H264 passthrough. I don't know if it still parses the audio, when you use either Save JPEG or H264 encode, ...

1.30->1.32->1.34 upgrade: multiple broken monitors

I have been happily running zoneminder for almost 10 years, and upgraded to 1.30 without issues. Then, I was forced to upgrade 1.32 due to some php dependency hell. After that, many things broke, listed in details here: https://forums.zoneminder.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=28830 ultimately I was to...

Re: broken debian upgrade to 1.30->1.32: multiple broken monitors

Sorry for the late reply, thank you for doing that. So, it looks like the onvif manager is broken in 1.32 and honestly while I wish I had never upgraded to start with, further upgrading to source from master, seems like just making a bad matter even worse. If stable releases aren't stable, how can ...

Re: broken debian upgrade to 1.30->1.32: multiple broken monitors

Thanks snake. https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/ it is, will look. As for jpeg pull vs ffmpeg/rtsp, they are quite different. 1) I have 15 cameras and more network bandwidth than CPU on my server. rtsp requires work to handle the compressed video, more work than jpegs 2) if my server gets overwhelmed, ...
