Re: Cannot write to content dirs('events','images')...

Here is the one written for Centos which I used to develop the Ubuntu procedure: Collect Information We need to know the following before we get started: Find the ZoneMinder events and images folders on your filesystem Determine the name of the web account user For local volumes, determine the devic...

Re: Cannot write to content dirs('events','images')...

Search around for the procedure to mount an external drive with systemd. There is a procedure for Ubuntu but I don't remember where the one for Centos is located. Will solve a lot of your problems!

Re: Linux Noob Setting up from a blank hard drive. Installation problems.

I still recommend you reinstall Ubuntu. If it is a server install just install LAMP and Openssl server. Use Putty from your Windows PC to run the commands. Get Zoneminder to run then add mail and etc. An easy way is to use a shell script. See https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Shell_script_zm_install#Sript...

Re: Linux Noob Setting up from a blank hard drive. Installation problems.

Please do a fresh install of Ubuntu server with LAMP installed. Then follow the WIKI Zoneminder install instructions. It will work! Do not waste your time trying to fix something you think is broken!

Re: Alarm, Event, Trigger

An event is the result of an alarm that is created by a trigger.
Events contain a series of images that can be viewed as a video.
Alarm is a state when images are being recorded.
Trigger is when the system detects a change in a view area and sets an alarm.

Re: Help about set up

You would be better off to use an old desktop for a Zoneminder server. The hard drives are more robust and the hardware better suited to an always on PC. See the Zoneminder WIKI for install instructions. There are even a couple of scripts that will install everything you need!

Re: How best to reboot or power off Zoneminder servers quickly and gracefully?

sudo reboot

About as simple as it gets. Systemd will shut Zoneminder down before rebooting

Re: Feedback on my proposed setup for home monitoring?

You seem to be on the right track. PoE is a good choice but if you can save a buck or so use CAT5 and a 10-100 PoE switch. No reason to have a GIG feed as this is a security camera system not a HD movie maker. Use an old PC that uses less power than a data center rack and is not as noisy. I have 17 ...

Re: ZM 1.30 on Debian 9.4 no streams :-(

I just ran the instructions from the WIKI: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian_9_64-bit_with_Zoneminder_1.30.4_the_Easy_Way Used my Debian 9.4 image and my USB test camera. No issues except ZMNinja does not work as there have been issues with the API in the past. If you want a "Debian" version that w...

Re: ZM 1.30 on Debian 9.4 no streams :-(

I had run a test of that procedure about two weeks ago with no issues. Will do it again as I get time.

Have to ask if you are using Microsoft Edge or IE web browser? If so switch to Firefox as the Microsoft browsers do not stream from Zm.
