Re: ZoneMinder Crashes/Stops After a Few Hours

Check the free space in /dev/shm. If low decrease the camera resolution. You may want to switch to the systemd mount for the external storage. Make sure your storage has a Linux file system.

Re: zmc crashes on second instance

Actually you need to increase the RAM used in the VM. Or decrease the resolution in Zoneminder

Better yet, don't use a VM!

Re: my database is gigabytes...

Your saved recordings should be safe. Replace the SSD with a conventional drive. You can use a SSD for the OS and database, mount the conventional drive with systemd and set the purge when full to 85%. Make sure your database, mariadb recommended, has enough resources. With an active system with pur...

Re: General theory of operation question

Ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04. Stick with a single LAN. GIG Ethernet will not fail you. In fact my 17 cam system runs on a 10 100 switch which has a lot of other traffic.

Re: Storage Geodiversity Soln. Sought for Zoneminder: RSYNC? Cloud? RAID over IP?

Uh, actually I'm waffling on the issue. DRDB seems complicated and as you say probably won't work well,. I think I'll stabilize 1.30.4 on my "primary" machine, and start experimenting with 1.31.x on the "mirror". My friends are starting to look at me sideways for having spent so much time on ZM and...

Re: Socket /var/run/zm/zms-958529s.sock does not exist

Socket sendto errors are common and usually a result of the web browser. Switch to ffmpeg if libvlc does not work. for me ffmpeg is much more stable. Also, check your cameras with VLC to make sure you are using a good resolution. Use VLC (Tools, Media Information, Codec) to check camera Display Reso...

Try the shell script again. There were some errors in it which were fixed over the weekend.

Re: Slow running system

Add more RAM! Most Linux distros will use half of the installed ram for tmpfs. /dev/shm is in the tmpfs area. Lower the resolution of the cameras. 640x480 should be good enough for a security system Run mysqltuner to find where you need to tweak the database settings. The more events you have the mo...

Re: General theory of operation question

I really feel that quality does not suffer from using jpg's. There are at least three apps for iOS and two for Android. All of which are great for quick looks at the cameras. Just keep the resolution low, 640x480 5 FPS is good enough for a security camera system. Yes, those settings will catch crook...

Re: General theory of operation question

Zoneminder is continually being worked on to improve existing features and incorporate new ones. Some things that are in the works but not perfected, yet, are record to video and direct remote storage. ONVIF capability is present in ZM 1.30.4 but still has some issues. ZM will work with most IP came...
