I'm sure your more interested in solving the problem and getting it going on your own install, but if your interested in giving the DVD I put together a chance just look under the zoneminder distro section. Hi... I have the same problem here. in the past tree weeks ago I have instaled ZoneMinder-1.24.2 in 3 virtual machines. Using Debian 5.08 and Debian 6.0 without any problem.
