perhaps you are running out of mysql connections. It defaults to 100 I think... each monitor can use 3 or 4 connections, plus more for every viewer.

Viewing Jpegs should work just fine. On arm, leave the h264 options to disabled and the save jpegs option to frames or frames + analysis.

simply a white page typically means a serious error like running out of memory. The apache logs should have the answer. The memory is how much is used by php. A typical install will limit it to 128Mb. You can edit /etc/php/apache2/php.ini to change it. Look for memory_limit.
