Re: Advice for newbie and using Raspberry Pi cameras

Hi,

Any news on using Pi's as cameras with a Zoneminder server?

I'm not happy with the video/picture quality of most security cameras and the Pi's seem to be much better.

Thanks,
Bob

Thank you! Huge improvement for people whose cameras push compressed frames into ZM for analysis. Anyone know if this applies to Video4Linux-based cameras? VFL cameras don't create JPEGs, but ZM will still create JPEGs when recording or when streaming to a browser, so it will help in those cases. T...

Hi, thanks for the tip... unfortunately the RedHat init script is quite different.

I've decided to put the LD_LIBRARY_PATH setting in /etc/profile... it seems to be helping; the modect CPU usage is about the same, but recording is working MUCH better.

Thanks,
Bob

The following is one example, specific to Zoneminder, of what dcommander is saying. Find the line in your /etc/init.d/zm script that says "$command start" and place the following just prior to that. For 64 bit systems: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/libjpeg-turbo/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH For 3...

Hi, that does work, but it also causes the SD feed to record, wasting CPU etc...
Is there any way to trigger the HD to record from the SD without recording on the SD?

Thanks!

alerting only on on certain zones

Hi, I have 3 Trendnet cameras, on a ZM 1.24 setup on Fedora 12. On the camera on the front yard, I'm using modect to record motion on the street and in my yard; this is working and currently sends me emails whenever an alert occurs. However, I'd like to only email if there is an alert in the yard, b...

multiple feeds and alerting and recording

Hi, I have 3 Trendnet cameras, on a ZM 1.24 setup on Fedora 12 on an old Pentium 4 computer. One camera (an IP-TV522P) supports megapixel resolution (1280x960). 1. Due to high CPU load, I'd like to have the modect run on the 522's VGA feed, but trigger recording off of it's HD feed. (the camera has ...

buggy CPU usage by 'monitor' cameras

Hi, while adding a second camera in 'monitor' mode, I noticed a few issues: 1. extra CPU is consumed (by ZMC) for this monitor even when not being viewed. (maybe this is normal?) 2. If I disable the monitor (click on the function column and uncheck 'enabled'), the CPU usage (by ZMC) remains and a ne...
