Performance Issues / Comparision 1.32 to 1.30
I'm finding zma (analyzer) consumes about 4 times the processor time in 1.32 compared to 1.30. zmc takes less. My experimental setup: Hardware is i7-5600u with hard drive and 16gb ram and a single hikvision 2032 camera running 4 frames / second at 1920x1080. I flip between hard drives to do experime...

Runs Great - 8 Network Cams on Laptop
Just reporting on experiences I've had with hardware. I'm using a Dell Latitude e7450 system with i7-5600u (5th generation Intel processor) with 16gb ram. I have 7 wired network cams driven by poe switch which also hosts the e7450 (thereby keeping traffic off my main router) plus one wifi cam (which...

Who turned off the lights?
A common occurrence with all versions of zoneminder is for it to stop. There are various postings suggesting it might be mysql or other conditions that overloaded the system. In the latter, there is no hint on determining which condition triggered the overload. Work arounds have been suggested by ma...

Re: Disk Array for Laptop USB3
Ya i figured using the ssd for the os. the medium formats look like they have similar disk quantity limitations. why isn't using a laptop a good idea? I've been running for 3 years on an old dell laptop i7-3540M with 8 FHD cams recording at 5 fps. zoneminder reports a load of 7. I find the 2tb+1tb d...

Re: upgrade from 1.30? runs slow
I just looked at the PPA 1.32 and I think the 1.32.3 has those fixed..... I know that 1.33.3 is working well ha! I got it right. I said " (Installation of 1.30 was problematic. - add monitor wouldn't work. someone else posted a fix somewhere.)" Didn't say 1.32. Install of 1.30 was problem...

Disk Array for Laptop USB3
Looking to add more disk space for zoneminder while keeping a small footprint. Using an older dvd laptop, I swapped out the dvd for a sata drive holder - that works nice - so I have two drives in a single laptop. Long term though this is no good because as a laptop ugrade many have gone with ssd and...

Re: High CPU Load
Just adding a bit here. A few days ago I did a full clean install of Ubuntu 18.04 with Zoneminder 1.32. Mine went 100% cpus after adding just a few cameras. I set mocord to record thinking maybe analysis of frames was driving up the cpu. My 8 cameras pump out at 5 frames a second or less. Under prio...

Re: upgrade from 1.30? runs slow
sorry for the misleading subject line. What i really did was a full new install of ubuntu 18.04 and zoneminder 1.32. 1.32 looks nice but the quad cpus went full 100% after adding just a few cameras. Gave up. Now back to ubuntu 16.04 with zoneminder 1.30. (Installation of 1.30 was problematic. - add ...

upgrade from 1.30? runs slow
i upgraded an otherwise smooth running system from ubuntu 16.04 / 1.30<-i think. Now i'm on ubuntu 18.04 desktop with 1.32 and my 4 processors run at 100%. for installing lamp i picked mariadb instead of mysql. is that a factor? or maybe its just that the newer release needs more cpu horsepower? i'm...

ssd + external drive configuration
i'd like to configure a laptop with internal ssd and external usb harddrive (or external usb harddrive array) to run zoneminder. I'm aware that ssd's cannot handle write volumes (from life expectancy issues) and of course the required large volumes are too darn expensive anyway. So I was thinking of...

Re: Crash / Burn / Recover - Can I?
Ok - this worked. User ids and Group Ids on the defective drive won't match the conventions on the new drive. mount --bind comes to mind but this won't work with ext4 system. Hence bindfs is the tool to use. Recall we have a new live drive with a new working zoneminder and we have an old drive with ...

Crash / Burn / Recover - Can I?
I want to generate a video from zoneminder archive data on a trashed ubuntu 17.04 / zoneminder 1.30 system. I can't boot up the drive and stupid me didn't use a logical drive system - everything is in a boot partition. 17.04 is no longer supported by ubuntu and there is a warning around that warns a...

Re: zoneminder local access using external WAN address, loopback, nat, tomato
regarding bridging: Been there, done that, but ................. xfinity router placed in bridge mode occasionally drops communication with the home router. this problem is reported on several websites. Renewing the lease on the wan from the home router just hangs as renewing. rebooting the home rou...

Re: how do you digitally capture AnalogHD (ie 720p) cameras?
latency is incredibly high for network camera based zoneminder. Analog is fast. Case in point are first person view drones that use the old technology.
