Have you followed other posts and edited the zmdc.pl script? I have this error and added the following line: $ENV{LD_PRELOAD} = '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so'; To the /usr/bin/zmdc.pl file (just before the my @daemons line). Restarted zoneminder and problem solved. ...failed. I keep getting abnorm...

I was apparently silly about thinking to restart the daemons with exotic methods, as I just decided to check the Options, and I've decreased MAX_RESTART_DELAY from 600 to 1.
I'll report on this situation, even if I'd still prefer to have the exit status 255 solved at the source...
