just needed to switch to grayscale palette to get 640x480. I could probably also bump up shared memory to keep RGB24.

How to get better image quality from ZM stills?
I'm running ZM 1.23.3 with a PV-149 capture card. When I run Mplayer to view my camera with a resolution of 640x480... it actually looks pretty good. The image is relatively clear/crisp and I can make out some 'text' that appears in the camera's FOV. BUT, when in zoneminder, viewing the camera in Mo...

Re: Excellent Work Zonaboy!
Good Job and Congratulations! One question: What did Cordel find out of place? The ZMS and the IRQ? thanks! the main issue was that my /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-defaults file needed to be modified to point to the directories installed by Zoneminder (as opposed to the defaults for apache). had ...

ZM 1.23.3 on Ubuntu 8.04 (kernel 2.6.24-16) works great!
Just wanted to report back that I have ZM 1.23.3 running nicely on Ubuntu 8.04 (2.6.24-16). I was having a few issues initially, but after a bit of tweaking to get a clean compile, followed by some masterful assistance from Cordel to get my configuration correct, everything is humming right along. s...

Okay so it was a few things, although the IRQ conflict was the biggest problem and zms was in the wrong place. So are we all good now? All good is an understatement !!! :) yep, everything seems to be humming along now, thanks to you! Can't thank you enough for all the troubleshooting and conf...

Ubuntu 8.04 Is using a newer kernel that has dropped V4L drivers in favor of V4L2. if xawtv can work in V4L mode, then in theory zm should also be work. If xawtv can't work in V4L mood, then ZM has not a chance. xawtv --help /// should say how to ah... i'm tracking with ya now. but is it possible t...

Try switch xawtv to V4L mode and see if it works, ZM does not support V4L2 yet. thanks for the quick response! i'm sure this is going to sound totally newbish... but how do i do that? Is that a ZM config option somewhere? (i actually thought xawtv was a separate standalone app). thanks again for yo...

New ZM user having problems... please help. (SOLVED!!!)
I'm running a newly installed Ubuntu 8.04 64bit desktop system and have downloaded and installed ZM 1.23.3 from source. I am using a PV-149 8-port card. ZM Console seems to be running ok, but I just dont get any video or stills (broken image) to show up in the monitor window. I'm using /dev/video0 w...

It will add lag to the system, and extra load to your server. It will also be a hot thing in the closet. Lastlly, they ain't cheap. The only ones I have seen work here are Axix. I would just put the computer there. Lee, thanks for your advice and sharing your experiences. You make good points. The ...

If you cut 2 inches off the top and bottom of the door you will get quite good ventilation with minimal visual impact. ah... the low tech solution, I like it! :) still, its pretty cramped in there, filled with... well, closet stuff. any comments on my overall configuration? will a network video ser...

Need help with hardware configuration
Hey guys, I'm looking into installing an outdoor surveillance system for my home. I've been doing a lot of research and I think I'm pretty close to nailing down a set of hardware, but I have a couple of questions. First, since I'm on a budget, I'm leaning towards analog cameras. Initially just one, ...
