xlib_shm / xlib_raw viewer question

I installed xlib_shm on our server, it's great! At the moment I run it by clicking a shortcut I made in the XFCE window manager which runs this: sudo ./xlib_shm -m 1 -m 23 -m 11 -m 12 -k 0x7a6d0000 Apparently I need to be root to run it so I need to sudo it and enter the root password. I would like ...

Uh oh.... Just remembered I don't have any real experience with USB video in Linux. All that I can make out (you probably found this yourself) is that this part is the USB video: [ 8.475809] Linux video capture interface: v2.00 [ 8.597334] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (046d:08ca) [ 8.64...

I would go for this one:

IR is never bad, it may help on lower light conditions. We had a similar version with wireless, but that was useless (the wireless part). Also PAL will always be better because you can use a higher resolution.

Did your try PAL, NTSC, etc? Try restarting Zoneminder after you change these settings.

Try fixing the permissions of the video device files, something like:

sudo chmod 777 /dev/video2

We finally found the solution for the slow booting, which was in fact due to the bttv card. This is what we added to the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory: We created a file 'devfsd' and added the following: alias char-major-81 bttv options bttv card=134,134,134,134 options bttv tuner=0,0,0,0 options bttv ...

We finally got it right by using exactly half of a PAL resolution 384x288. This works, any higher and you get interlacing effects.

Most problems turned out to be using different resolutions on the same BT8x8 chip and changing resolution settings of cameras and not restarting Zoneminder. I think.

An all in one card is a good idea, best would be to get a chip for each camera, we also used a card with 4 ports, but one chip, this works, but because of the switching between the channels the image gets 'jumpy'.

Which card do you have in mind?

Just some quick ideas, tips, things: - Depends on where you are located, but if in North America, you could have a look at bluecherry.net. They have good capture cards and good day/night IR camera's. - We started out with stuff from this site, pretty cool. Shipping to Europe very expensive though. -...
