Yes, I did. Unfortunately I had no time to polish it and upload for others. I can offer you some hints on building the system on flash by yourself. First of all the best distro for building such a system is Devil Linux (www.devil-linux.org). It was created with small foot-print and embedding in mind...

Good luck from me too! :) I was thinking a lot about that, but not sure how to achieve it without hard coding the graphics engine from scratch, which would require too much time and effort for me. BTW, one more idea for building a kind of "embedded" surveillance system with integrated keyp...

I've noticed it by accident, when building my Slackware based system. By default it comes with a 2.4 kernel, and I configured and started ZoneMinder with that default one. Although the PC was an old PIII-733 256 RAM machine it worked OK. Then I started some patching/updating and other cosmetic thing...

Yes, exactly.

I was a bit surprised not to find it present already, it looks like Phil's PHP interface is too good for most people to do anything else. :)

Linux kernel 2.4.xx vs 2.6.xx

I have recently discovered that Zone Minder works significally faster on a 2.6.xx kernel then on a 2.4.xx one. Since some distros still use 2.4 kernel as a base I would recommend upgrading to kernel 2.6.xx

Some suggestions:

a) an OSD interface to control ZM with a small built in keypad (i.e. hardware-like DVR interface);

b) ability to control/watch several remote ZM servers at once (like that contributed prototype Windows frontend posted to forum some time ago)

What you mean? :)
I just wrote the translation of fernado's message in Inferno's native language, 'cause am also interested in getting the source.

Yes, I mean exactly dropping FPS when there is no motion in streaming mode. The standard behaviour is when the system is capturing motion at full FPS and is used in monitoring mode by operator at the same time. In this case the operator's console is located some_where_far_away from the server and th...

Dynamic FPS when in Monitor mode

I've recently found a good feature in one commercial VDR system. The idea is to automagically reduce FPS while in monitor mode and no motion is detected to save the network bandwidth. So when a motion is detected on a camera (either in montage view or in single cam mode), the FPS for the correspondi...

MPEG streaming problem

Have just installed ZM from LiveCD and upgraded it to 1.2.2. The things work fine, but when I try to switch the streaming mode from JPEG to MPEG it is not working. The URL for the stream becomes: http://localhost/cgi-bin/nph-zms?mode=mpeg&monitor=1&scale=100&bitrate=150000&maxfps=100...

I have seen a lot of USB numeric-only or serial-port keypads. :) You can even build your ZoneMinder system as an embedded device with your own casing and a kind of keypad integrated right into it. In fact this is exactly what I am building right now for one local project. Yes, most of WMs will do th...

krzys31337: Haven't seen the topic you mentioned before, but it looks like YOU are trying to reinvent that wheel. :) The idea/solution explained there is so common that I think many people have already realised that. For me personally it is working that way for a couple of months already, and exactl...

There is another way to improve performance:

1) you can use a kind of alternative X server software, I've heared of several lightweight ones;

2) use RATPOISON window manager instead of Gnome, KDE etc. It also allows extreme programmable key bindings and scriptong to get rid of mouse use at all.

Thanx, Phil. It is about 200 MB right now but I'll clean it up so it will fit on a 128 MB flash module.

Think I'll be ready to produce some beta this week or so.
