ZoneMinder 1.23.x at 64-bit Ubuntu

I would like to set up IP cameras at my home(four 800x600x24bit at 8FPS). I have a powerful computer at home- fast C2D CPU, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, nVidia 8800 series GPU. Because I have 4GB memory(and perhaps in the future I will upgrade to 8GB) I wonder is it smart to use 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 instead of 3...

can ZoneMinder reduce video stream quality?

I have three 2megapixel IP cameras at home. At the moment they both record at the full quality settings and I don't want to change it. However, I would like to watch that image live over the Internet. The problem is, that the upload of my Internet connection is 1Mbps(and it is expensive to upgrade o...

Actually I meant it would be wise to put the cameras on their own switch so that they are on their own broadcast domain, you want as little latency as you can have for the cameras, Hubs are bad because they create allot of collisions (ka collision domain) and switch's while they correct that still ...

There is the camera traffic, and there is the users accessing the web page (or what I said as outgoing). You don't want your captures to suffer if badwidth gets tight from a bunch of users watching the monitors. Of coarse most all server main boards these days come with GB network so the addition o...

is graphics card important as well? cordel , why should exa split outgoing/incoming traffic? Is it because 6(six Axis 206 cameras)*640x480(resolution; ~100kB max)*30(FPS)+1(Axis 211)*640x480(resolution; ~100kB max)*30(FPS)= 21MB/s and the usual speed of ethernet is 12.5Mbps? And what do you mean by ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't DPTZ is just resizing the image and scrolling around the scaled (like you would to a hi-res jpeg image in a image view program)? If so then the, IQeye752 might be able to still suit your needs. You can use Zonemider and record the camera images and keep the camera...

best quality-price ratio PTZ IP-camera supported by ZM?

hello, I am looking for a good quality-price ratio PTZ IP-camera, which is supported by Zone Minder and is suitable for outdoor environment. It should be capable for monitoring in dark. And the stream quality should be at least as good as this 2MP camera: http://88.196.58.108:7002/appletvid.html Act...

ZoneMinder and IQeye752

I would like to buy an IQeye752 IP camera. It does not require ActiveX, but Java applet starts when I check the MJPEG from here . It has a DPTZ. Is ZoneMinder capable to operate with Digital PTZ? Here is a short manual, here is short information and here is a longer instruction sheet. http://www.net...

Lets start with a 4 cam system... 4 images at 320x240 is a lot smaller than 4 images at 1280x1024 or larger. However, you are not likely to get 1280x1024 at 30fps... But the data requirements (Bandwidth, memory, and hard drive) are greater with IP cams at high res. With IP cams you have to decompre...

advantages of analog CCTV system

as I understand, the IP based surveillance systems are getting more-and-more popular, but does analog surveillance systems have any advantages over IP based systems at all? I thought that the price of an analog system is lower, but on the other hand one might have to buy a rather expensive(powerful ...

IP cameras and VideoServer

as i understand, video server is used with analog cameras to convert analog video stream to a digital video and store it in video server. With IP cameras, the video stream should be digital from the scratch. But how can I store and view it later? Is ZoneMinder capable of that?

Technically you could connect an IP camera in two ways. The more professionally made have BNC output and have transcoders (ACTi does / Axis might?) that use mpeg4 compression to grab the video and dump it to a BNC adapter. However these are neither the best and economically way to do it. If the cam...
