Multiple zones let you avoid false trigger areas. I use that method to avoid shadows that trigger, tree limbs, etc.
Just plan on spending time tuning the zones.
I have not toyed with the idea of triggering off a lower resolution stream.

Re: New Version?
Most repositories are a few versions behind on many things. You need to look into editing your sources.lst and pointing to a different repository for ZM. Take a look at this link, but make sure it is right for raspbian. There may be a different repository for that. https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian...

upgraded to 1.34.9 deleting events throws errors, SOLVED! EXIF plugin for chrome is the culprit.
I did an apt upgrade on Debian Buster to 1.34.9 from 1.34.5 If I delete some events, ZM keeps looking for the nonexistent event folders, constant errors in the log. "no such file or directory" EDIT: Completely my bad. I had installed a plugin for chrome to view EXIF data. Even after I dele...

getting an extra " in zmtrigger.pl
I m revisiting the old axis days on my new build, and tried getting on-camera motion detection going. I have it all set up and tested, but I am getting an extra set of quotes in the trigger script. Here is the log line: Can't find monitor '"2' for message '"2|on 25|5|cause|text|showtext&qu...

ZM_WEB_SOUND_ON_ALARM
to get that to work, do I need to create the sounds directory in /usr/share/zoneminder/www ?

Re: Debian Buster install procedure for Zoneminder 1.34.x
you followed the instructions linked in the first post? Did you get the pgp key to install with "Ok" ?
If not, you will not get the latest version from the zm repo.

Re: Debian Buster install procedure for Zoneminder 1.34.x
I reinstalled the server from scratch due to a hard drive change. I did everything the same as before at the wki linked above, but I got an error at systemctl start zoneminder It exited with an error, but when I got apache configured and restarted, the zm console was working. I added a camera and di...

Re: Unidentified flying objects on infrared
I have seen spider webs blow across and show up big/out of focus.
My best motion event I found looking for a break in to a moving truck. I am scrolling through the events and get this perfect crow at about 5' from the camera, wings spread.

Re: Debian Buster install procedure for Zoneminder 1.34.x
Thanks everybody for all you do.
The only problem I had was with getting the pgp key. It kept failing, so I added the verbose -v option to this:
wget -vO - https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/debian/ar ... eyring.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
After that it was smooth sailing.

Re: IP or analog? How to decide for home surveillance syste
It seems like the higher resolution of IP cameras would make them the better choice most certainly, especially when an axis207w off ebay can do 1280x720. remember if you want high quality image, don't skimp on processing power on the zoneminder machine. Push it to the limit, and then some more... u...

Re: Striped video screen
post the card model, the camera, and the settings you used when setting up the monitor. These will all be helpful for anyone who can answer. I don't have an analog setup right here to look at, but what you have seems to be a setting problem.
