FreeNAS is an excellent NAS

http://freenas.org/
It's free, robust, scalable, and easy to install and configure.
An older PC will work fine. RAID is easily accomplished with FreeNAS.

AMD AX78 MB with Athlon; Ubuntu 8.04 and Latest Debian pkg?

Hi, I built a computer with the above components and find it will not run ZMLiveCD1.23.3 nor will it run the Bluecherry LiveCD. My system is 64 bit. I am familiar with Ubuntu and wondering if the best course of action would be to install 8.04 Ubuntu (server or desktop) and then install the zoneminde...

Does that mean it has to be a Pentium CPU ? I'm pretty sure they mean that it should be the equivalent of the Pentium III but that an AMD or other x86 with reasonable power would suffice. At £14.99 it's not a great risk but I personally would not buy something unless it fit into a technology plan ...

More: interrupts and dmesg...

Thanks for considering my problem Cordel, and others. Here's a bit more information in case that will help. It looks to me as though the card is recognized but I'm not sure how to interpret the interrupts, in particular. Here's some of dmesg just after a start up. [~]# dmesg |grep bttv bttv: driver ...

Potential collaboration with MythZoneMinder on LiveCD 2008

Hi, I don't mean to be presumptuous or rude but you might consider, if you have not already, collaborating with the folk over at MythZoneMinder as you create the next Live CD. http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MythZoneMinder . As I understand it, an advantage to using ZoneMinder with Myth is that...

Sending mail when an event is triggered

There are two parts to getting Zoneminder to send mail notifications when there is an event. * Getting a camera to recognize and trigger an event. * Getting the mail system to send the event. First, getting the camera to recognize an event. * On the Console screen, select a camera and, under the Fun...

How about Plain Xubuntu as a Distro

On the topic of "which distro" it would seem attractive to me to just use Xubuntu and then apt-get install Zoneminder as a binary resource from the distribution sources. That way one takes advantage of upstream packaging and it's easy to update. Are there drawbacks to this approach?
Thanks.

No Video, but Xawtv works (sort of), PV153PA capture card

Hi, I've installed Zoneminder from the BlueCherry Live CD but don't get video into Zoneminder. I'm using a PV153PA video capture card from bluecherry, manufactured by Security Eyes, but it probably is a Providea. http://www.pastebin.org/17185 is where I have the detailed write-up. I would appreciate...
