I can't hear you

I have an Annke C800 with h264 passthrough to zoneminder. I can't seem to get audio working. I have record audio in event turned on. There are a bunch of audio codecs available in the Annke camera's setup. I tried MP3 with h264, h265, and h265+ and didn't hear any audio with any of them. The other audio codecs available are...

G.722.1
G.711ulaw
G.711alaw
MP2L2
G.726
AAC
PCM

I would assume the camera would just encode the audio in the stream and zoneminder would just pass it through to the hard drive with the video stream. I'm playing the recorded files with VLC. I'm thinking this is something stupid simple that I'm missing.

Any idears?

If VLC plays no audio, the audio is either not there (my VLC warns when there is no audio stream) or is not understood, or is a silent stream.

If you have FFMPEG installed, try running "ffprobe /path/to/a/video.mp4" and see what it says, it will tell you what's inside the container, e.g :-

Code: Select all

  Duration: 00:01:57.56, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 355 kb/s
...
    Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (Constrained Baseline) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p, 368x208 [SAR 1:1 DAR 23:13], 258 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 12800 tbn, 50 tbc
...
    Stream #0:1(und): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 44100 Hz, stereo, s16, 95 kb/s
This will show there is audio in the file you are playing, and what format.

Also make sure you've configured ZM to record the stream from the camera direct to disc, rather than process it as individual images and then creating a video from the stills.

I can't speak for this cam, but I have many that provide a silent audio stream. I assume because they don't actually have a mic.

I'm dumb. Under the camera's configuration tab you select video sub-tab, then there is a "Video-Type" selection box with two options. One is "Video" and the other is "Video&Audio". Working now.
